Re: 05/2017 - High Caribbean Disco
HC would fill a need for me as a Dominican focused dance club in Sosua. I was thinking the other day that there's nowhere there to take a favorita for a night of dancing. Clasicos is just too decrepit these days. Years ago you could actually have a night out there with your date and simply ignore the sex market aspect. Now it's all puta all the time. Worst yet if you brought someone in there you cared about you're subject to get into an altercation as a result of some ignorant boob disrespecting her and by extension you. I wish the owners of HC luck. Sosua needs a place where adults can halfway escape the sex scene for a night of dancing and drinking to Dominican/Latin music.
Re: 05/2017 - High Caribbean Disco
Stopped by Friday night around 1 am. Had been at city nights which wasn't packed but had a decent amount of folks in it. Decided to check out High Caribbean, had never been there before, took a moto outside of City nights to it's location, there was nobody there, no motos outside waiting, no cars except maybe two. Asked the moto guy to wait outside for me, to give me an half an hour, because I was afraid I would get stuck there with no way back to the strip. When inside one table had a couple of people at it, a guy and 3 chicas, think the chicas worked there. A guy at the bar and myself who also sat at the bar. Had one beer, brought another for a chica working there, who's number I got and left. I was thankful that I asked the moto guy to wait. Hard way to do a business.
Passed by on Sunday on way to playa Chiquita, casino disco, and it looked packed from the outside, cars every where. I wanted to go inside to see what was going on, to see why such a difference from Friday night, but chica I was with didn't want to stop. Don't know what was going on maybe they had a performer there, or some type of event.
Re: 05/2017 - High Caribbean Disco
Can someone just simply summarize, please, venues (clasico's , chaka, high carribean, city lights, chez mon real, premium, after one, disco playa Chiquita and other places), hours and clientele?
I just need to know when and where to find maximum numbers of working Dominicanas in the present day Sos. The format is very simple.

I was there on Sunday. I have a post about it back aways but they did have a performer jovanny polanco was the name on the ticket. Entrance was 500rd on
The ticket. I paid 300 rd because someone I was with knew the band
all Dominican crowd with a handful of people like me. Mostly couples
played 100% merengue
clearly this night was geared to the Dominican crowd. But they were passing out flyers on the pc a few days before
like i said before the band did not come on until after 1am. So since this is Sunday they for sure are getting special treatment
not sure how late they stayed open i left when the band finished a little after 3am
not sure what the plan is for this place but the outside patio is now done
if they dont keep it open some investors are going to lose their ass in the deal

I agree with you. My first extended trip to Sosua coinicided with the opening of Clasicos, if I recall correctly that was early '04. Then, and for the next few years, this was the place to be especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The place was packed after 11 pm, it was a great mix of locals, ex-pats, mongers, putas, tourists from Casa Marina, gringas and their sankies, all having a great time. No VIP areas, no "Making it Rain", No rap, no DJ interrupting the music, no fights, no searches at the door, no cover charge. You could come and go as often as you wanted. If it got too hot you went downstairs for a while or did the loop down the street to Sosua Life. If the washroom was too busy I would go back to my room at Rockys to take a leak!!
It all changed when the weekend warriors began their weekly invasions, it was a slow change but the last time I went there a few years ago it had totally transformed to what I imagine a NY night club to be.
Maybe I have got old but now my idea of a good Sosua night out is hanging out at Lucky Bar with a few friends listening to Ted tell stories from the good old days in Sosua.

Maybe it is for that very reason that it would make HC an ideal spot for someone to bring a "wife up" or "GF" situation there for a night of fun. They play Dominican music, right? How many of us complain about the music in Sosua being top heavy with rap and hip hop? Not enough local selections. Well, sounds like this might be a place to get away from all that, and if I'm a local Dominican taking my wife or GF out for a night of dancing, I don't want the atmosphere of whats happening along the main drag.
Maybe it is a conscience decision of ownership to fill that need for the locals, to offer an alternative from those traditional nightspots that have catered to the monger and WW crowd that saturates Sosua, and not force those locals who want to enjoy an evening away from all that from having to go to Puerta Plata or somewhere outside Sosua.
And not all mongers are grab and smash. Some may want to have a nice evening, a "date night", sort of thing, with a chica they meet, and if amicable to both parties, take their own party down to the far end of the street and enjoy listening and dancing, in a place where the absence of a monger crowd, and the putas that accompany them, might be more than a little refreshing.
It sounds to me like they want the "mature" local crowd. And that kind of crowd doesn't go to a disco every weekend. If it were me; i'd go after a combination of the local mature crowd and the AI crowd. Maybe link up with the hotels and have the guests bussed in.

Are you SURE you don't mean Bachata ???
(that was not a question, i know you meant Merengue and you know which is which )
but , If they are truly playing Merengue, and only Merengue, they are in fact sending a STRONG message , that NO Gringos are desired, or even perhaps Welcome ..
This is Dominican Tipico music, where no gringos usually go..
btw, i used to thoroughly enjoy the Big Merengue Festivals on the Malecon in Santo Domingo back in the day... got nothing against Merengue //
But that was an open Air Celebration more than anything, not a Club scene.
Premium Disco, just as a comparison plays both .. they mix it up REAL nice..even the old school Raggaeton... which is NICE...
But just to Pile on even more , This Merengue only sounds like a clear message that this is a Dominican Club now .. imo
Very interesting..

I remember my first visit to Sosua in 2006. There were 3 major clubs, Classico being the number 1 club, following not to far behind in status was Sosua Life and distance third was SeaCrets. I remember club hopping from one to the other. Good memories from the past when Sosua ruled.
Re: 05/2017 - High Caribbean Disco
It was a Merengue band. They are prone to play 100% merenque. No surprise there.

I came just after you for the first time in 2007. I hit up all those and a few others in the surrounding area.
But, TBH, the place I miss the most when thinking about the old days of Sosua, at least as I can relate, is without a doubt, the Shark Bar.
Lou had the perfect spot on Pedro, an oasis among the madness. Just far enough away yet a great place in it's own right to spend an evening with fellow mongers, tourists, expats, and chicas who would come on up the front steps and when they entered, Lou would welcome them with his signature,"Howahyoubaby".
The great music, the sports on the big screen, the tasty snack food, and Lou was never shy, at least not to me, about pouring a strong one on the house.
I'm sure I'm not alone when I say how much I really miss that place.

Yeah, I miss the Lou's Shark Bar and some of those other little bars like the Four Roses, Dominoes and of course Fred's Cuba Libre Bar. That along with Passions and the couple of the Massage/BJ shacks made Sosua the number 1 destination for me. You had so many options back then.

It was a Merengue band and there was no bachata played at all
no doubt who they were going for but who can blame the ownership cause the tourists aren't showing up there
the thing i have against premium when they play their merengue is it us to loud in there. Glad they do play bachata once in awhile to give you a break

This article explains about the night HCD facilitated the concert. The last sentence also explains not only who organized the performance, but why.

I was told by someone on this board that Fred from Cuba Libre Bar is in the Philippines. Just wondering about Lou, where's he and how's he doing??

I had asked about him during my last visit in March. He still comes and goes from what I understand. Heard he likes to drink at the Coco Hotel Bar. But others would probably know much more.
Last I actually saw and spoke to him was in 2014.

Yes Fred spends most of his time in the Philippines, Angeles City to be exact. Lou is in NY with his family, his son is there with him and Lou's mother, going to school, playing little league etc., all are doing well. Lou visits on occasion as does Fred, Lou more than Fred, but that is understandable considering getting to the DR from NYC as opposed from the Philippines.

Back then? How about right now! Spent pass weekend in Sousa plenty of chicas around, got back Monday, and last night was my first night spending time on the strip since I got back, recovering a bit from the Sosua fuck-a-thon; and catching up with a few that give me door to door service. I was shocked, literally no chicas on the strip, besides the waitresses in the clubs and restaurants, oh and two chicas in the interior at the piano bar, way more cops! I think at one point had to be about 15 Cestur police (tourist police) and another 15 or so National police.
Seems a crackdown is in progress the last couple of days. Some of the local chica riff raff (the Chica pick pockets led by the fat chicas) have gotten a bit out of hand, stolen from some tourists. Wasn't out the night before but heard they hauled off about 30 chicas in cuffs the night before, which obviously was the reason no chicas were out. Don't know how long it will last, probably just another day or two. I was with some guys one who was new, so we walked up to the casa, the old Iraisa next to Paco drink 2. Had some talent there, thank God. The new guy picked one right away, and I actually took one as well. 2,000 pesos for an hour, which I felt was more than fair for their looks.
Probably got back on the strip close to midnight, a couple of more chicas around, but all seemed coupled up, so can't say if they came independently or was brought there by the guys they were with. All I know is that it is dead right now, never seen it like this before! All I can say is waoooo!
Take my advice if coming to the DR, go to Sosua, unless you have your own lined up! Simply incredible!
Re: 05/2017 - High Caribbean Disco
They need to break those fingers or even better cut off a finger of a chica or hombre who is caught trying to pick pocket
It will send a powerful message to stop that BS
Plus everyone will know they a thief and alot harder to pickpocket if they don't have all their fingers
I had one of them fat bitches in Sosua make an attempt for my pocket this last week but I saw it coming.
I took the opportunity to make sure everyone in attendance new what she was she was trying to do by grabbing her hand and raising it above her head and squeezing them not so gently
Telling her I was gonna break her fing fingers if she ever came near me again.
I think she got the message and some of the other chicas in attendance got a chuckle out of it. :corky:
