If this doesn't fit the current narrative, FUCK the narrative.
I saw somewhere that it just reopened again
Its now called Alicia Beach Hotel or something like that

So what are occupancy rates like in early to mid feb? Do I need to book in advance, or can I just find a place when I arrive?

Book in advance, high season, plus super bowl time, hard to find a place if not booked

Like yayow says, sometimes there are major events and everything is sold out.

That reasearch led to ISOC. Never made it to Blackbeard, but it would have been a good option for the controlled environment aspect.
First trip was New Garden, good hotel but I made sure i got a room in the "new wing". Now they have new hotel across the street that is even better. Good food.
Next 2 were Sosua Suites. Only issue is noise. That was in the "owner suite" that is closer to the road. Stayed one night in a room beside El Flow/Premium for one night on one trip, no sleep. I can sleep through a lot, the noise on Dr Rosen can be a lot. Especially when the market gets a delivery of bottles at 7am, almost every day.
Now I stay further outside the party area and walk in.
Lot of options, lot of information on the board. Glad you are taking advantage of it. And people are still sharing.
I'm booked at the D'Piero for December. Popular but further out from the action. The Dominican Republic is a noisy place. I need my beauty rest. :corky:
I just stayed at D'Piero for 2 weeks for the first time. I recommend it, it is a pretty laid back hotel. Good made to order breakfast is included, although some members here would probably sleep through it. It was summer so it was very quiet except for 1 Saturday night when some Dominicans stayed. Noisy fuckers although very friendly.

I don't think Wilfred is involved anymore

Not in the hotel -- I know that. I'm wondering about his next endeavor, wherever and whenever.
Good luck, Wilfred, wherever you are....

Good staff, well run. Didn't have a single issue with the hotel.
Was fully booked by Dominicans on Easter weekend and noisy as hell, otherwise great.
Gotta watch out for some of the guests though.....:lol::rofl:

I have stayed at Di pierio several times as well and like it there. Especially nice when there are places to hang out on that side of town
But they do have issues with wifi on the top floor that i am sure could be taken care of with some more equipment.
Thought about offering to bring it to him sometime in exchange for a couple nights room.

My Wing and I stayed at Casa Valeria in Mid July. I highly recommend it. Excellent friendly staff, great food, quiet, Clean rooms, excellent experience all around. But.... It is definitely NOT HAPPY HOUR FRIENDLY!. You can have all the single guests you want. Run them in and out every 1/2 hour, 24/7.! But, if you bring home 2, 1 will have to sit in the restaurant/ lobby area while only 1 goes to your room. You can then tag team and bring the 2nd guest to your room when you are finished with the 1st one. And the 1st one then waits in the lobby area until you are done with #2. Or she can just leave, of course.
This was a thing for my wing and I . We tried arguing and Bribery with mixed results. And I am talking about major bribery! The sticking point was, there are multiple cameras monitoring the entries to the rooms and pool area. Like 10 or 12 cameras in all. And the owner can monitor them off site from home and they are recording. The owner was a very nice guy, but he has his rules. And the security guards have been fired in the past for breaking the rules.
So they do not bend, cause the boss can be watching. But it can be hit or miss. Sometimes, depending on which guard you get, he may let you slide with 2 guests and only after the owner leaves, about 9:00-10:00 at night. But it is Definitely NOT a sure thing. So if multiples are on your agenda, take your trade elsewhere.
Just my experience. Hotel Alicia Beach, formerly Sosua Sunrise was ok with 3 somes in the past. I have no idea what the current management will do. I also highly recommend them. Breakfast and dinner used to be included there. Again, I have no idea what the new management will do. Time will tell.

Thanks.. that's good to know, and I don't know if i want a happy hour or not, but I certainly want to have the option!

For most people the happy hour is the exception most of the time and you probably won't do to many happy hours
The reason some hotels don't want the happy hours is often trouble results from them.
But you can always take your happy hour to the cabana if your hotel gives you trouble.
Probably not a bad idea to do it that way since most happy hours are ST

I have had close to 100 in my life and some have been the most incredible experiences that you can imagine, and yes some have been duds.
Re: 09/2017 - Help me pick - Sosua vs Blackbeard
I have had quite a few myself both with civilians and pros. For the most part they were some of the best experiences of my life as well!

Re: 09/2017 - Help me pick - Sosua vs Blackbeard
Happy hours are great if you can find 2 girls that are either friends or really into each other. That has been the best experience I have had in Sosua. Once I got 2 close friends together.. just like a porn movie.. I think a hotel that does not allow 2 girls to go with me as along as they had ID would be a deal breaker for me. I need to have that option...
