Well as of 8/22/04 the exchange rate is now 39.5 to $1 us. Maybe the new President is making an impact already. I just hope prices moderate with the exchange rate.
The low dollar to RD$40 and petroleum follows in rise 3:38:00 A.M.

Santo Domingo. The dollar followed yesterday its tendency towards the loss and its sale in commercial banks and agencies of change was placed in RD$40 by one, a reduction of more than 250 points in only two days.
Nevertheless, this good news is dimmed by the increase that registers the petroleum, whose quotation yielded a little yesterday, when it closed to USS47.86 in the market of New York.
The National Council of the Privada Company (Conep) expressed satisfaction by the reduction of the dollar, and at the same time he suggested to the new authorities and the population in general who initiates a process of reduction of the product consumption that depends on petroleum.
The commercial banks of the country bought the dollar to an average of RD$37.50 by one, whereas the sale made the rounds between RD$39.70 and RD$40.30, for an average of RD$40 by one.
The report of the Central bank indicates that the average of purchase of dollars by the commercial banks and the agencies of change yesterday era of RD$38.48, and the sale to RD$40.45 by one.
"We would have to be thinking about measures of austerity in the consumption of petroleum, simultaneously that we exhorted to all the Dominican ones to that we reduce the consumption of everything what depends on petroleum", it indicates an official notice of the enterprise sector.

These girls have no clue about the Peso/USD fluctuation.
It took 2 years for them to go from RD500 - RD 1000 for a ST!
These rates changes dramatically ona daily basis. Last Wednesday it was 42 to 1 now it is 35.5 to 1. That is about 20% drop in a week. I am thinking about ending my trip early. This is bullshit. :(
This is the first week of Leonel's administration. I don't it'll be this crazy for long.

all i know is i had 9000 pesos left over from my memorial day trip... i spent it all plus more on a weekend trip 3 weeks ago... now i only have about 3000 left over from the past trip... i wish i would have bought more for my next trip in 3 1/2 weeks...

My guess is around 30 to 1 usd then back up to around 40 in a month or so...
Its not going to stay down at these levels.
Don't forget NONE of the electric bills have been paid yet.
The only reason the Peso is down here below 40 is the government has not purchased dollars in a few months to pay ANY bills, hence no power.
It has been said that $RD40/USD may be a realistic longer term goal, certainly not $RD30.
Electric is on about 20 hours a day now for the last few days.

Curiously in most markets the Bid price is 36.50 but the Ask is 45. Something is odd.
I think the govn is hoarding dollars at a cheap rate to pay of some bills.. you will see a change back to 40-45 imo pretty soon.. this is all speculation!

The rate droped again. It seems like everyday it drops 1 peso. I hope prices drop too.
