09/2015 - American adding weekly Puerto Plata flights from Charlotte

American Airlines said Monday that it plans to add weekly flights from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to two Caribbean destinations starting in December.
Nonstop flights from Charlotte to the island of Curacao and Puerto Plata, in the Dominican Republic, are scheduled to start Dec. 19, with booking availability July 20.
Both flights will be operated once weekly, on Saturday, and both flights are scheduled on the Airbus A319, which seats 124 total.
The new flights are part of a package of new routes that American Airlines is starting, including Los Angeles-Mazatlan, Mexico, and Chicago to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Charlotte is American’s second-busiest hub, after Dallas/Fort Worth. The airport has seen a dip in international travelers, however, since American pared down its international routes following its 2013 merger with US Airways.

This is good news for those in the CLT area, or those who aren't comfortable with AA's Miami hub.
Charlotte has been a hub for US Airways for decades, clear back to when they called themselves Piedmont. Now that AA owns US Airways, it only makes sense that they'd make more use of its hubs - where it's helpful.

3 hours to POP. Is a good thing. Too bad it's only once a week but this is a great thing for NC travelers.

For those who don't like connecting in Miami, it gives them another option on Saturdays. They are using the Airbus 319 from Charlotte. From Miami they just changed it from the 757-200 to the 737-800. I've connected a few times in Charlotte. Terminal isn't as big as it is in Miami but still pretty big and large crowds.

Good news for some but fuck a Saturday flight. Regardless of how long my trip is, I want to leave between Tuesday and No Later than Friday(as early as possible)

Can always make the return trip to Charlotte on a Saturday.

I was making plans for a March trip. This flight came up. Man, is this just the coolest thing out of LA. It shaves two hours flight time off the quickest MIA flight with only a hour layover in Charlotte. Fight out of LA is 1 in the morning, but that's no issue. Coming back I take the normal flight thru MIA any day of the week. Really nice.
