But a single traveler has to add on $200 for taxis.

Being a cheap charlie, I'd just wait for the bus and save most of that $200 for pussy.
This thread gives me the impression that an STI-sosua taxi is $100 one way. How much is the bus?

Not sure but I think that you need to take a taxi to the bus first.
Re: Cab Share Jan 15th 3:00 AM
Too lazy to search it out for you..
It's been posted..but its around $10. The problem is that there's no bus that early..
People have caught cabs to cabanas..to wait it out a few hours..
Went to Passions..then a cabana..
Hung out at the Airport..

Taxi to Sosua is $75 from Santiago, that is the set price... it might be $80 now as this was a couple months ago.

It is late for the clubs but some of the taxi drivers speak english and can hook you up. also someone said here before the people at the cabana can get you a girl. If you opt for that and they can't you have nothing.

i will send you taxi information..
Re: Cab Share Jan 15th 3:00 AM
If you think that was brutal just wait till you ask what some here will designate as "a stupid" question! Then just grab yer ankles...

It's amazing how many guys will jump on someone for asking an innocent question and even basically call you out s stupid for looking to save money or have a different experience.
It would cost about $20 to get from STI into Sosua by bus, less than $40 even if you needed or chose to stay at a Cabaņa for a few hours, about $75 or $80 including a chica at the cabaņa....or you could choose to just spend the $80 for a taxi to Sosua=boring.
I'm guessing you saved more than $200 per person so in the end you'll get to keep most of it, have had a different and potentially very enjoyable experience and still save a bunch of cash. Sounds ridiculous to me....to knock you for it that is!
p.s. I've done what you're proposing many time in my first 6 or 7 vacations and had a great time! :corky:

It's all relative and the OP probably does not much care about the past at this point...
I was saving hundreds and also had the pleasure of doing and enjoying stuff that I was told was not worth the effort...and they were wrong.
That's usually the case with those that forget where they came from...

For my first trips, I ask someone that I know, what is the best way to get to where I am going. I had about 10 first trips.
I wasn't worried about saving $100 because that comes after I know my way around.

Wow! I think I created this firestorm of controversy. My apologies to all involved.
Mea Culpa. I should have stayed in the seminary.

It's never too early to be smart and save money. That's not being cheap IMO, and often leads to a more interesting trip in my experience.
Why wait 10 trips?

I would love to see you go to Mexico or Colombia and take the cheap and easy route and see if you don't get robbed. Its best to follow other peoples suggestions.
I never called him cheap, but if I did, you will find that post for me.
