Re: 10/2004 - Current rate of exchange (Current Info)
Great link, thanks! :corky:
Interesting to see the historical data as well as to note the spread between CAD and USD. It's well under 2 pesos now and I've seen it in the 12-15 pesos range....which hurt! :p
To change CAD to USD up here can cost over 6%, about the same as the difference between the rates here. It would seem o the surface that it might finally not be worth the effort to convert before a vacation...Wouldn't that be nice!

Like I've mentioned before... Considering that a peso is only about 2 1/2 cents, and the exchange rate varies by Dominican centavos (100 centavos to a peso) you guys expend more effort keeping track of the exchange rate than your time is worth.
Re: 10/2004 - Current rate of exchange (Current Info)
The reason for my question is that in the past it seemed that the street rate for USD was even better than it should have been...making it well worth the effort to exchange to USD before a trip. If the rates on the site are representative of the street rates then that appears to have changed or at least not matter much now.

I use Currency Converter by pocket tools on Android. There are other apps too. It's effortless to keep track of rates/trends this way.
Re: 10/2004 - Current rate of exchange (Current Info)
Over the past year had i kept pesos under the mattress instead of US dollars, I would have lost about 7% due to the exchange rate change. In addition, inflation has been increasing as well and the DR government has recently forced employers to increase wages by 14% or up to the minimum wage, whichever is higher... Holding Dominican Pesos is not a good idea...

You have to watch though, it depends where you change your money. The changer's rates are not always what the posted rates are as the US dollar is much preferred to our silly money. Through my debit (BMO) I was getting 39.37 for a Canadian, while the posted rate was 40.79....the changers were offering 37.5 ish at the same time for paper.

The US if I recall the changers were giving 41.8 at the time and I see the posted rate was 41.98....very close.

If you had told me in 1993, that would care about currency exchange rates because it impacted my "dick wet percentage" I wouldn't have believed. Brave New world gentlemen lol
Re: 10/2004 - Current rate of exchange (Current Info)
At least in the DR you get close to the exchange rate for US.
For Canadian the exchange is so bad that I am way ahead of the game exchanging for US up here.
Cost about 1.5% to exchange CAN to US at the local place. Worst rate I ever got in the DR was about 10% less than posted for CAN to DOP, but usually 1.5 to 2.5 pesos less than exchange. Surprise, surprise the worst rate was at the cambio beside El Flow/Premium at night. that was 3.5 pesos below exchange.
For a 2 week trip that makes a big difference. One or two sessions.

And if my High School spanish teacher would have told me that 30 years after I graduated, I would be venturing down to a spanish speaking island country in the Caribbean to bang young women, I would have been a much better estudiante!
