Possible solution to safe thieves
Most of the stories about safe break-ins I've read on this board involved keyed safes. Most of these safes are located on a closet.
I was in the dollar store (poor college student) the other day and saw this battery powered window/door alarm. I thought to myself, 'Hey I could place this device on the inside of the closet, so if some biatch tried to open it, myself, and most likely my neighbors would hear the alarm'.

I know I'm not the first person here to think of this and if thats true, then I'd like to hear some success story of chica thieves gettin caught.

Not a bad idea if they try when you are sleeping, but if they knock you out or are there when you are not, they could defeat it pretty quick.
Re: Possible solution to safe thieves
And how do you keep it from going off every time you go in the closet?

I use it for the windows in my house. It has an on/off switch.

Leave the safe key in the Safe put fake money and digital camera in there then go for long toilet break come back out chica is gone and you don't have to pay. Knew someone that did this. lol
Switch safe keys with your wingman if you have one and its Idiot Proof.
Alot Hotels have no idea how much their letter openers hurt their buisnesses.
I am just used to fact they are all shit and lot my valuables in my suitcase I figure it is less risky than one that isnt bolted down and wondering who has master key.
Suitcases are usually cable locked together around something granted screwdriver or knife would open but they would think your valuables are in the safe.
Re: Possible solution to safe thieves
Go to Playero and buy a couple of old fashioned mouse traps and put those carefully inside your safe before closing it.
Don't forget they are there.

And duct tape or superglue a razor blade to the trap. You can get rat traps that are bigger than mouse traps also. The double sided blades work best since they tend to grab it with their other hand.

I know it has an on/off switch, but you are inside the house with the unit attached to your window. How do you keep it from going off every time you access the closet from outside. For that matter, how do you set it with the closet door open?
Not trying to rain on anyones parade, would love to see this work.

How many times do you plan on accessing the closet when the chica is in the room? When she's not in the room, switch it off. To set it with the closet door open you just switch it on and then close the door quickly. It will buzz for as long as it takes you to shut the closet door; dealing with hearing the buzz is inevitable but you would only have to put up with it for a few seconds. If you plan to use your closet a lot while she's there, then no this may not be the best solution. Every time you open the closet door it will buzz (and very loud too-kind of like a high shrieking chirp), so she will know it's there and may figure out how to turn it off.

Re: Possible solution to safe thieves
I always thought each safe should be equipped with a hasp on it even if it has to be welded on. That is so a traveler can bring his own keyed or combonation lock. But that is just me. Even Jihad's letter boxes at Sea Breeze would be secure then.
Re: Possible solution to safe thieves
Bringing our own combination locks may not be as secure as we think.

Re: Possible solution to safe thieves
Honestly not to many locks are secure. With the right knowledge you can pop most commercial locks in 30 seconds or less.
Re: Possible solution to safe thieves
:confused:I am planing a mongering trip in January or February it will be my first time going . reading a lot on isoc I have taken a lot of info and learned what I can . I will be going with a wing man which is my cousin. I read all the safety blogs and I think a safe is good but I also will be taken one of those fake aerosol can that look like shaving cream but are a hollow hide away cans. Hopefully chicas won't realize what's in them. Has anyone else tried this yet. You can get them at a locksmith in NYC or the Internet.
Please tell me what you think of this idea.......

My dad used to say if somebody really wants your shit their gonna get it. Best you can do is deter thieves a little, but nothing is a guaranteed solution.
Re: Possible solution to safe thieves
The chicas will steal it thinking that it IS shaving cream....that shit's expensive in the DR!
ANYTHING that is left out can and potentially will be stolen. Not just stuff that you might think either. Cologne, toiletries of all kinds from hair brushes to toothpaste.
Generally speaking I have rarely had things go missing but if I knew I was going to have company I put shit away before hand....but in the 7 months I lived in Sosua I did lose some condoms, a hair brush, little stuff but nothing of any real value. Lots of other guys have has many nasty experience though. Use your hotel safe.
Use common sense and don't tempt anyone and you'll likely be fine.
