i can fly from:
syracuse (to STI) in late january for $339.90 all in (4:30am arrival time) with jetblue ( but need to stay in a cabaņa or expensive taxi or bus to boca chica AND a 6:00am return departure AND a 3.5 hour drive to/from home each way)
syracuse (to SDQ, my preferance) for just under $450 thru either atlanta (i really like this airport and only a 58 minute layover!) or jfk (but a 16+ hour layover!!!) on delta
syracuse (to SDQ) for $475 thru ewr (13 hour layover!!!)
home to SDQ on continental for under $700 (but save $150 in travel and parking cost but over 12 hour layover!!!)
what would you do?
if the weather is clear syracuse is looking good, unfortunately.
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
You should try Montreal. Flights are direct, no customs(yet), 1 1/2 hour drive(or less) and only $54.95 cdn a week to park. I have seen flights for $100 cdn + $275 cdn....$375 for a direct 4 hour flight.

Re: what airlines are we using the most?
damn that sounds as good a deal as what I get and the travel time is even close to the same.

on regular flights the price is exactly the same so that's not it BUT i'll have to consider charters as that's obviously where the savings are :)
but not from homebase...the charters are usually silly in price and often leave midweek.
i'm "trying" to leave fridaynight and return a week the sunday having the best part of 9 days on the island....but if i can save $400CAD i may have to be happy with 7 days instead.
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
I have only flew out of Toronto into POP . I usually get a free bump up to first class.. with Airtransat .. but I got a credit with USair I will be flying from Buffalo into Santo Domingo
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
I like the AA flight out of JFK to STI, I always catch the 6am flight, touch down in DR by 930am with a cerveza presidente in hand and than it's all good from there on :D.
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
I like Cont. to EWR. to POP. My last trip was AA to Mia. I had a 2 hr layover.
Now, Delta is flying out of Bwi, so my next trip will be on Delta to Atl. to POP.
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
Well I currently live in ATL. Delta has flights direct to DR at a good price.

Re: what airlines are we using the most?
only toronto is direct for me...and it's about a 4 hour drive each way plus traffic AND a charter so only a week instead of 9+ days.
i'd almost rather drive to syracuse:rolleyes::rofl:

The departure from STI is kinda early in the daytime so you either have to head to STI for the last night or rush off at like 9am to the airport from Sosua. If I fly out from POP I dont have to rush to the airport. I can relax until about noontime.
What he said...
I've done EWR New Jersey to STI my first two trips on Continental, non-stop, about $350. For my 3rd visit in December I caught a Continental Non-Stop to POP but had to pay $416 because I waited too long.
First two trips into STI took Caribe Bus from Santiago to Sosua, nice comfortable ride, plenty of chicas to peruse. I think it's about $8usd one way for the bus ride.
It will be nice flying into & out of POP this time.
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
AA direct from NYC or Miami to SDQ. Sometimes I fly Jetblue direct from NY or Boston to SDQ. I have flown Jet Blue enough to have 2 free flights saved up and the same with AA. I have done the EWR to SDQ in the past and have 3 free flights with continental but may save those to go from texas to SDQ or vice versa.
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
I get fucked here in Chicago.
AA Ohare to MIA then MIA to POP.
Delta Ohare to ATL then ATL to POP.
No direct flights and they are always over 500 bucks.
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
I usually fly AA, Delta or Continental from JFK/Newark - STI. And most of the time for about $265.

i went to santiago early...with a chica and made use of a cabaņa...very tasty :)
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
Continental, for the following reasons:
EWR to POP nonstop (for $350 + tax if you book early enough)
EWR to STI nonstop (for $250 + tax if you book early enough)
OnePass Elite member with an assload of miles (Free round trip coming up, with return flight in 1st class)
Re: what airlines are we using the most?
My cousin teaches at a NYC public school and they have winter recess Feb. 19-23. I looked up flights for the 17th-25th as those dates include the Sat/Sun before and after that work week. Do you know how much they all want? $800. Even Jet Blue. The week after, the costs are back to normal ($3-350). This is just obscene. I mean, jack it up $100, fine, but to more than double the price is robbery. I'll walk to the DR before i give them $800 to fly me there. I'm just really disgusted by this.
