H. Mejia, M. Vargas yesterday sign pact to respect convention results.

The pollster Asisa Research Group said the opposition PRD party leader and ex president Hipolito Mejia will win the convention Sunday, with 64%, to 36% for Miguel Vargas, president of that political organization and former Public Works minister.

Asisa said since the balloting will take place with a semi open registry, their survey conducted in the last week in February excluded members of other parties, as well as potential voters who affirmed that they will not vote in the convention.

The pollster also notes that when it included those who were “somewhat sure” of voting, the intention of vote for Vargas falls to 33%, with the remaining 67% would vote for Mejia.

It added that Mejia may surpass that projection by the end of this week.

catch me up on this. Does Mejia have a chance of winning? Whenever i am driving around santo domingo (from santo domingo to Bani, and ocoa) all i see is billboards for Leonal and Danilo (same party right). I figured they were the ones w/the most money and support?

After re-reading the thread i recall all my friends who grew up in DR talking about Mejia (they called always referred to him by his 1st name). He was the guy who pretty much turned back the clock 50 years while in office? i dont know the whole history of presidents there. But from what i recall

leonal = the crook
hipolito = the old man who killed any progress or improvements

It was beautiful riding through puerto Plata in complete darkness, I can't wait.
