Channel 4 filming in Sosua (Documentary)

Channel 4 camera crew active in Sosúa

Over the past weekend a camera crew from the English TV station Channel 4 has been busy filming in Sosúa. The crew mostly focused on the town's nightlife, by filming in various discos and bars. The Channel 4 documentary will be broadcast sometime around the middle of June. The cameraman told us that they hope to give potential tourists an idea of the atmosphere in Sosúa.

I don't know why they are letting them film in the clubs , Channel 4 must of told the club & bar owners it's free advertising when we all know this is gonna be a documentary on prostitution.

Thanks for drawing our attention to this! The news item appeared in the Sosua News, by the way, with the same wording. Did you put it there or quote it?

Sure it's probably about prostitution, but maybe with a different twist.

    Hi there,
I work for Zigzag Productions, an independent television production company based in London which has both a well respected reputation and considerable experience in making documentary films. I am working on a Channel 4 documentary looking at women travelling abroad for sex and romance. Now it’s not just men who are nipping off for 2 week holidays to have sex with women in Thailand; British women have a Dominican destination that they can travel to for romance and or sex guaranteed, in the safe secure confines of a small number of hotels in Sosua. Films have been made about men going abroad to satisfy their sexual desires but the sexual freedom of British women overseas has barely been represented despite it becoming less taboo and better assisted.
The programme would follow 3 or 4 British women who travel to Dominican hotels, investigating the different relationships that exist between the Dominican romancers and the ladies seeking them. I would love to talk to you confidentially even if you don’t want to be on camera, but if you are interested in taking part then I would love to hear from you.

It's still the same thing Your still talking about prostitution as a whole.... Bringing attention to a certain area for what it provides tourist. So now it's men and women... The thing is that your not gonna see many women doing what we do down there maybe a few at best and thru my 9+ trips to sosua I've seen it in action and it's not much

Documentaries about prostitution, regardless of being pro or against, bring unwanted attention to that country. The DR gov't has a history of overreacting to situations such as whoretowns by shutting them down. The DR gov't shut down Boca Chica about 5 years ago, and Sosua was shut down during the 90's (look at Rocky's report about history of Sosua).

The documentary called My Boyfriend the Sex Tourist, focused on mywildvacation.com on Margarita Island and they shut it down after that. this could result in changes.

Re: Channel 4 filming in Sosua (Documentary)

I am sure The Ministry of Tourism would be quited pleased to escort this film crew to POP when they see the trailer.

The Dominican gov't is quite touchy about this sort of publicity, unless someone is paid off, and I doubt this film is gonna bring in Coppola revenues for a big payoff.

Fuck ZIGZAG productions, and the horse they rode in on!

They need to chill the fuck out and mind their business. Jesus has a bunch of fucked up shit already on Planet Earth to worry about. Plus, I am pretty sure a bunch of guys who claim to be conservative Christians fuck hoes all the damn time. Bunch of hypocrites.

What do you mean by this....you approve of the film, or is it that WEYLAND "sense of humour"... where is the old coot?

I will trip the camera man if someone films me without my permission.

I think the focus of the documentary is on older woman going to the Dr looking for love. I hope they stay on the topic and keep the heat of us
