Have you been there since Aug 15th?

My last topic went way off course so I am going to repharse it!

I WANT to bribe customs on my way in this time!
I have to bring in stuff that they will tax because it will stay there!
Do they still ask for bribes at POP?

Please do not get into why you should say NO! Because if they decide to be pricks I will be taxed heavily, I do not want to go on the basis that they are to lazy to check!

Just want to make sure I don't go to jail for attempting to bribe, I plan on handing the 10 spot before anything is even said.

    Thanks in advance

Don I haven`t been there since June. I can only recomend that when you are collecting your bags, look over at the guys at customs. Pick your target early, that way you'll know where to go before you step up to the customs guys.

Last trip, they seemed to have me all picked out, acually calling me over. They knew I was alone. I say they, because as I walked up to the counter, one said "ten dollar, no problem" the other was loading my bags on the desk. Being the prepared person I was, I reached into my pocket, pulled out a 10. He patted my bag, and said "no problem" as I shook his hand, dropping the 10 spot at the same time.

Thats the exact route I plan on takeing this trip. I'll take my time, scan the agents, maybe even let my bag go around a second time till I get my bearings. I don`t wanna pay taxes on all that booze I'm carrying in. The time it takes to do the paperwork isn`t worth the 10 bucks

if you have something that you need to worry about ... i would hand them a 5 at most... shit that is more then they make a day! I usually have pesos from the last trip and would throw them 200 pesos at most to just pass by if i had a lot of shit!

I would never bribe any of these agents. Period point blank. Unless you are are trying to bring hard drugs back into the states just take the zero and pay your taxes if they search your bags.

How much can it possibly be?

Just a suggestion: If a "customs agent/hold up guy" at ANY airport in D.R. gives you any shit (provided you don't feel like being coerced into paying them), just smile and threaten to call the American Embassy by whipping out your cell & saying, "Un momento, por favor...voy a contactar la Embajada Americana en Santo Domingo a ver si esto es legitimo..." Then sit back and watch them shit themselves! Motherfuckers! Works great, too! As American citizens over there, we are "gold" and our country expects us to be treated with care while traveling in D.R. I've actually pulled this manuever a few times (under slightly different circumstances) Once, I was checking out of a cabana on the morning of my flight back home, and they were trying to rip me off on the bill by threating to call the "Policia". When I told them I was contacting the U.S. Embassy (and I did...and the service is EXCELLENT), the "Policia" actually escorted me to the airport to make sure I didn't miss my flight. Fuck'em! Who's the fucking "tigre" now, ASSHOLE?

For some reason I just saved that number in my cell phone... I think I would only use it in a worse case then someone trying to get my 5 or 10 bucks... by the way ... look at my signature and ask yourself who is the tigre!

What controversy? The fact that these assclowns sit around trying to figure out how & which ones of us to rip off? Show some balls and stand up for yourself! You don't have to walk around over there cowering in fear that some dumb ass "policia" is going to drag you off to "el cuartel", never to be heard from again. Quite the contrary: They often tend to try to "size you up", the minute they lay eyes on you , to see if there's a way they can scam you: If they are successful, then they consider themselves "tigres"...If not, YOU are the "tigre", and you are accorded a certain ammount of respect for being one (the same is often true when negotiating pussy/prices with chicas)! If everybody caves in to the airport rip-offs, before long the situation will only get worse for us. Tip/pay them what/when YOU want to...NOT what/when THEY want you to.
As far as the cabana goes, I have been back there several times...no worries: They respect me (ask me if I care) & we laugh about the incident now...because they think of me as a "tigre" now. Indeed, it did turn out to be a GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION. Ask me if I give a shit...I'm not running for office or concerned about impressing anyone in D.R.
"Oooooo!......I'm skeerd! Besides, I want to make a good "first impression" on these third world pinheads!" NOT!!

Ease up on the caffeine my brother.

    LOL.

I don't think anyone is giving up the shakedown cash. I know they have never approached me with that scam.

Besides I need my money to pay for the bbbj and massage in LaPassions.

If you're feeling paricularly lighthearted just then and want to toy with their heads, before any of them has spoken to you, pipe up and say, "Hoy es mi cumpleanos!! Donde esta MI regalo, tigre?" (Today is my birthday!! Where is MY present, "tigre"?) It usually cracks them up. Most of the time they will immediately congratulate you too, saying, "felicidades!" Tell them, "Te invito a un trago luego!" (I'll invite you for a drink later), and walk away laughing.

This trip I had no problems getting in and out of DR. No requests for propinas and no luggage checks either. I was just waved through going in and out. Now I'm pissed I didn't bring more rum. Didn't get checked coming back into Holland either.
NTW all the good rum is sold out everywhere! Went to Sosua, POP, Santiago, La Vega and Bonao. Sold out evrywhere and back in stock in December......

    shakedown

I had a bad experience when I was a newbie; bringing in a shitload of cell phones. After a long negotiation, I had to pay $150, from a starting point of like $220. I had the phones in new boxes and everything. I didn't know. I learned that the disceet passing of the $10. works like a charm. It is well worth it, preventing them from wasting your time and going through your shit. The dollar store now sells imatation colonge for a dollar. Pick up a couple of bottles, give them out, and they will be thrilled. Slip the $10 as they call you over to the table. They'll let you go right through. It's not worth the tax, which they probably keep anyway.
I was in that back room for like an hour negotiating. Couldn't contact my friend who was waiting.

Going in at SDQ, was asked for propinas but simply told them ' no hay' no problem in getting checked or anything else. Blew a kiss to the honey from immigration and entered.

Leaving at SDQ. Was told to pay extra because my stay was more than 15 days.. gave the aduana lady DR$ 200 and was hussled throught the customs by a very big guy who opened all doors and helped me pass through all lines with efficiency.. I knew about the overstaying penalty but acted dumb so I got my money's worht.. I think.. never paid for exiting the country like US$ 20 or so..

Weed, bud, chronic, smoke, pot, indo, trees, grass, skunk, shit (in Paris), call it what you may, just don't bring it with ya!!
And I wouldn't attempt to cop it there either. El Presidente's and smoking ass - not grass - is plenty for me... 8)

So I should be high as a kite in 36 days!!
