Is it really that good in the DR?

Is it really that great in the DR? Getting ready for my first trip and just can't believe all that I read on here. It sounds like heaven.

The key to enjoying yourself is:

    1) Never believe anything they say
    2) Believe only 50% of what you see
    3) Treat them like children

    4) head down with some buddies or time it with some pros that you think you would like to hang with.

The best part of my trips (by far) is the group of mongers that I have been fortunate enough to hang with ! !

    5) don't drink the water
    Who me ? ? ?
    nahhhh . . . move along, move along . . .

    YES! It is that good.

If you can enjoy yourself in other places and situations I can not think of a reason why you will not enjoy Sosua. When I went I had no Spanish and was by myself. Within one day I had hooked up with some great guys, found a girl I was happy with for my trip, and had explored enough of the town that I could get around easily and know what people where talking about when they were making recommendations.

The people you are with really, REALLY make a difference. If you look at jimmydr's calandar you will usually find that there is a diverse group of guys around at any given time. Even if not all you have to do is hit the recommended spots, talk with the owners and they will help you out.

If all you did was go from bar to restaurant to club to hotel to bar... you would likely have a great time. I know I did.

The previous posts are also spot on.

My first stop was the Palace, followed closely by the Blue Dolphin and the rest was History! If you go to the beach be sure to visit "Siempre Sol" and say Hi to Herman for me. He is very aware of the scene and really helpful.

But most important wear a condom.

    They sell Durex there.

Now for my favorite subject. I prefer Cuba Libre's. Bought by Magnum of course. Beer is slightly higher is cost than rum and coke.

Siempre Sol is one of the cheapest places to drink and eat on the beach. New York Shark bar is one of my favorites also.

Why ruin good rum by adding cola to it? OR ruin good cola.

Just keep an open mind, after all you are visiting a third world country. Things are a lot different than the US, if you can deal with that you wont have a problem. Tourist towns like Sosua are very safe.

Follow the advice given by the other members above and you will be in heaven.
