Subway system under construction

The subway system plans to open sometime in late November.

My friend told me that the subway system will be complete and ready by November.

The subway is pretty much ready to go. What's holding everything up is setting up all the new feeder lines that will transport folks to and from the different exits.

They've purchased a hundred buses or so for the feeder system, and they haven't been delivered yet.

They are determined to have the whole thing up and running in one big bang..

There is some speculation that some of the tunnels may have flooded as a result of Hanna and Ike coming through, but THAT is a closely guarded secret, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's one of the reasons Cheeno got told to put his camera away.

A part of it was opened for a while for some "show" runs (I think this was back in February or March).

From what I've "heard", I doubt if it will open in November.

Not much of a secret anymore. It gives Leonel an excuse why it won't be ready by Novemebr. This appeared in DR1.

Metro in jeopardy

The recent heavy rains have put the November opening of the Santo Domingo Metro in jeopardy. Hoy writes that the intersection of Hermanas Mirabal and Charles de Gaulle Avenues are still flooded and mud in the surrounding areas has made construction work difficult. According to two engineers quoted in Hoy, the intersection will not be ready by November, but they would not provide more details. Adding to the confusion is the fact that the builders are not explaining why the Reyes Catolicos Avenue that intersects with Maximo Gomez and the Alma Mater intersection with Independencia Avenue are closed.
