My daily email update says 27.445 again. I'm guess actually exchanging would be a peso or two less.

Why do rates always seem to be a little better in Santiago?

That's funny.... what is the street price compared to the bank rate... say the Yahoo/Bloomberg rates?Originally Posted by BrooklynBeas

I find that when I am down there you can usually get 1 to 2 points higher than what Yahoo reports.Originally Posted by Escort_King
Chexico cambios were 1 peso lower there than at the US banks. I can't imagine getting the advantage. Well...other than pussy is almost free in the DR.Originally Posted by Escort_King

That makes no sense to me. :?Originally Posted by Escort_King

27.5:1 today according to 92.5 in Sosua.
Notice no current info on best exchange rates. The rate is creeping up towards 33 to 1 so negociate. The street guys and exchange houses always quote low if they do not know you. This is going to be a sticky and please no board talk.
I find ATM's give some of the best rates. But i like to deal in cash leaving no paper trail.
So just the rates and where you got them please.
if you notice the canadian $ rate please also post it occasionally. thanks.
When you can think of yesterday without regret and tomorrow without fear, you are near contentment.
Your opinions are not my problem...
It's above 33 right now. Of course, it started going up as soon as I cashed the check I've been carrying around forever and a day.
I got 31.9, which means I've already lost about 150 bucks..
If you think it's love try not paying in the morning..

Before I go to any foreign country, I always check XE.com to get the current exchange rate...to make sure I know what it is and don't get ripped off too much when I get there (of course, I mostly use ATMs and minimize going to the cambios).
Between June 16-23, I got 29.75 for Canadian $ from ATM and 32 for US $ at the cambio past Hermann bar on Pedro Clisante.
another item of interest I noticed this trip was the exchange rates. ATMs were giving me 33.4 and the guys on the street in Sosua and in the cambios all tried pushing for 33. On my 2nd day I was in Charamicos and noticed a place around the corner from Caribe Tours on the main street which had a sign outside which said 33.4 for 1 USD.
They have an armed guard inside and the people are behind bulletproof glass but sure enough they gave exactly 33.4 as posted outside.
If your changing money and have the time its worth venturing into Charamicos to look at the real rate for the day and getting the proper change. I would suggest getting dropped off by moto conche at Caribe Tours and walking down the block until you see the sign then walk back and grab a moto so they dont know what your up to for extra safety.
Sure on 100USD you lose the difference in moto conche fare 2 ways and lose the time but if your in town for a few days and want to get some change all at once at least you'll get the correct rate.
Be advised to use this place only during the daytime as it was closed after dark.
After leaving you can hit the nice bar across the street from Caribe Tours on the hill for a nice 70RD GRANDE Presidente!
Jimmy owes me a dollar!
