Question Visiting Santo Domingo during New Years!

    Hello folks,
I was wondering if anyone has been in Santo Domingo during past New Years? I am planning a trip there on the dates of 29th-2nd. I have spent hours reading over the reports and would like to thank everyone for the information on these forums. Just a few questions:

    1. Whats the chance I will not be able to find a hotel (as in showing up without booking a room) during New Years week?

    2. I assume that rates for everything increases, but what about chica rates (in general)?

    3. Is this time a high "tourist" season?

Thanks in advance. You guys are awesome

There is usually a hugh party on the Malecon for new years, I don't expect this year to be any different. Some people like that environment, but I prefer hanging out on Boca Chica beach at someplace like the BoatHouse, and watch the fireworks at the Hamaca.

I have my doubts you will be able to find a room, and you definitely won't be able to find a taxi.

Many chicas head home for Christmas and the holidays, so the pool is depleted somewhat, but there are always chicas that don't have much home to go home to, so you can always find one or two.

It is the tourist season, but this year, bookings are way down due to the global financial crisis. Now that I think about it, you may be able to find a room after all, but I wouldn't do walk in. Make a reservation.
If you think it's love try not paying in the morning..

I'm going to be there at that time as well and already got a hotel for the entire period (booked without having to leave a deposit or even give them a credit card). I was just checking yesterday online because I might want to be at the Jaragua Hotel for New Year's Eve. No problem at all getting a room at this point. Also the Marriot's other property there in Santo Domingo- the Marriot Courtyard - has rooms on discount for $79 a night for the period leading up to New Year's Day. I just did a check on hotels.com and checked out a few of the hotels' websites directly. Other hotels have holiday specials. I think it should be easy to get a room, and at a pretty good rate.

Mr. Happy, I was thinking of checking out this great party on the Malecon, and perhaps the bombazo (sp?) concert I have read about that takes place in the Jaragua Hotel. Any thoughts on that?

I am also more than a little worried now that I read your comments about chica availability. I hope there are still some available. Slipheed, send me a pm. Maybe we can meet up when we're both down there.

Money Re: Visiting Santo Domingo during New Years!

I have spent the last three New Years in Santo Domingo and will do so again this year. As Mr. Happy told you, most of the women go home to the campo at this time of year. But there are also many who's families live in Santo Domingo. I'm sure you can find something. As far as a room I think the advice you were given is good. Make your reservation now.

Now, this is what I can guarantee you. Santo Domingo is on fire from one end of the city to the other on the 31st. They drink and dance in the streets until sun up on the 1st. IMO, this is a good time of the year to hook up with a non-pro as well.

I'm going to be in Santo Domingo from Christmas Day through Jan. 4. I already had a rez for the Riazor Hotel, right behind the Jaragua Hotel and casino, on the malecon, for my entire stay, but just made a reservation for the 30th and the 31st at the Jaragua Hotel. Hopefully I'll find a chica by then to stay with me (from reading the reports here, I understand that hotel is not chica friendly, especially in the tower). Not sure if I'm in the tower or not, though, as I couldn't determine that when I made the rez on hotels.com. After that I plan to head to the North Coast for the final days of my trip.

Anybody who's going to be in Santo Domingo for Xmas/New Years, feel free to pm me. I'd love to talk or maybe get together some time, especially if you know the place. It will be my first time there. My Spanish is at an "intermediate" level now.

    Thanks for the awesome info.

What about before Christmas? I've read that they are in great demand for extra money for the holidays. Any suggestions?

I would think so too. I've read the same thing, and understand Dominicans actually give gifts on January 6 and so they often need to make money for that purpose. I wish some of the veterans here, and part- or full-time residents of Santo Domingo, would weigh in here. I have read through the existing Santo Domingo trip reports and haven't found much specifically about Christmas-New Years. Chicas go home for the holidays, but Santo Domingo is a huge city, by far the biggest city in the country, with something like a third of its population. Santo Domingo is home to tons of chicas. Question is, how to get to them? Same venues as always? More likely to find them on the Conde, in the shopping areas? I wonder. However, I would say I assume we can't go wrong by using the great info in the Santo Domingo section, including especially Cheeno's very descriptive reports on hotels, clubs, restaurants, and other stuff. I wouldn't even be going to Santo Domingo at this point were it not for the great information I already have on this site from Cheeno and others.

Your right sir, This forum is quite informative, and I have read a lot on trip reports from Santo Domingo. Thanks again ISOC members for making a complicated trip into an easy vacation. By the way, I will be providing full trip report from this visit.

I think there should be an ISOC rule that u must complete your mongering trip report before you can go out on another one

Re: Visiting Santo Domingo during New Years!

I may be in town. I will definitely be in DR but may head to a resort for New Years. Haven't nailed down the plans yet. Last year I met a chica at jaragua that would not come into the bar area. She was making eye contact from far away in casino and then moved closer with her amigas. She was shy so her amiga came up and did the talking.

Cute but not hot, big tits and cute face. I live 4 blocks from jaragua and go there all the time. never saw her previously or since that night. Walked her home and she was a "screamer" seemed like she hadn't gotten any in a while as she was "muy caliente". Great sex, gave her 2k in the am and never saw her again.

The Bombazo concert is cool to bring a date to, but be prepared for a LONG night. I went 2 years ago with my ex and the concert ended at like 8 am with Franke Reyes headlining. We got there at like 10 PM so imagine how much drinking we got done. Also my waitress was insisting on us paying after each round. . . .fuck that. I said I want to leave the tab open and pay with CC as I didn't have enough cash to drink 12 hours on me! She kept refusing and I kept asking to speak to manager. She said he was unavailable.he became available quick. When he showed up he knew me and told her to run a tab. . . . .funny thing is my ex was then pissed at me for saying I wouldn't pay and that the girl was doing her job.

I knew that if my bank saw 20 different charges from jaragua in one night they would put a hold on my acount, plus not getting manager when customer asks to see him is NOT doing your job. . . . .oh well. . ..

    Finally I said I aint paying a nickel for the last 4 rounds. . . .

Lke the man said, there's a ton of folks around on New Years Eve, even the girls who work in other towns go back to Santo Domingo to be with their families.

It won't be entirely easy to determine who's a working girl and who isn't.

But there will be thousands upon thousands of people on the malecon for the New Years party. But hey, I did it once, and won't do it again, but then again, I live here.

Curiousdude, if I were you, I would not stay in the Jaragua on the 30th and 31 st. Stay in the Riazor.

If you don't find a girl, and you're in the tower, you're screwed.

The Riazor is only a minute walk away from the Jaragua .

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely take it. I have a rez for the Riazor for the week before the 1st. If I find a chica I can wife up with in the Jaragua, maybe I'll stay for a night there. Otherwise, I'll just stay at the Riazor. Thanks!!

The bombazo concert was one of the reasons I was interested in staying at the Jaragua on New Years. But it sounds like if I went to that I'd never be using my hotel room, lol. Also I'd love to see Frank Reyes. But thanks for letting me know what it is like. I don't want to be in a 12-hour marathon concert where I have to buy drinks all night long. Probably best to skip that thing.

Thanks for the good advice from you Santo Domingo guys.

    Didn't read responses but...

Last time I went down for NYRs was on a whim... Booked Hotel room morning of new yrs eve online (Jaraguay hotel), rented a car in north coast a few hrs later and made drive... There were bunch of parties going on all up and down the Malecon... Jaraguay has a concert and an uppety party, but it's a good time... Only issue was that was my first time in Santo Domingo, and i didn't do ANY research before hand...

Jaraguay was a great hotel, but too expensive (I thought i got a deal at the time), and made a big deal about bringing chics up... but i'm sure there are many hotels available, don't sweat it, you can even book up until the week of i'm sure... isn't tourism down this yr, due to economy...

This is my first time in RD . the only info I got is from ISOC. Planning to party every night. Will give a trip report about that time frame. In the mean time I will keep reading this tread for any last advice you guys want to give me.

I stayed there last September and wrote a very nice trip report. That and what Cheeno has put up here is plenty.
