    Flying Privately

Finally added up the costs of flying on Reel Deal airlines.

    Fuel: $486.09
    POP fees: $170.00
    Engine Time @$10/hour: $120

The POP fees were broken down as follows...
$100 for parking for 9 days
$20 the exit charge the DR charges everyone but we only paid for one. (AA/JetBlue includes this in the ticket fee)
$30 for Airport Personnel Overtime (eventhough no one extra was there)
    $20 for FBO costs.

So the total was $776.09 total. That is $388.05 each for 2 or $258.70 for 3 people. Not to bad if I say so.

We skipped a couple charges and had some BULLSHIT charges!
We did not pay for a tourist visa (-$10 each)
We only paid one exit fee (-$20)
We did make the mistake of landing in Nassau to re-fuel and eventhough we were only getting gas we had to go through customs which was $35 each. (+$70)
Also in Nassau they "lost" our flight plan so we had to refile it, I forgot the cost.

Next time we are skipping Nassau and re-fueling stateside in West Palm Beach or somewhere similar.

The view you get flying at 7,000 feet, PRICELESS!
The service you get a POP when you are MUY IMPORTANTE flying in privately: PRICELESS!
The fact you get to skip TSA Security, PRICELESS is a HUGE understatement!

Sounds like a great deal, but most of us do not have friends with planes.

    You need to qualify it:

    ...that live in NYC.

I am sure you could get a seat on RD Airlines if you lived in Tampa!

I'm sure you can wear anything you want but I doubt RD will dress up in one for you. It's only a 4 seat airplane and we ain't bringing any women!

    Hmm...

That kinda defeats my purpose, and negates my mile high club fantasy.

    Great trip, and easy, too.

We're heading down Thursday. D-->West Palm for fuel (1.2 hrs), then D--> POP (4.75 hrs). The plane is a 2000 C182S, 145kts cruise, carries everything you can stuff inside.

DT makes a good co-pilot and chart holder.

Culebra-what do you fly, and what ratings do you have? I SEL Pvt, complex, and Instrument rated, 2000 hrs.

    It's all Greek to me.

Ironically that is where the word Gringo comes from..,

Gringo: Someone who cannot speak spanish due to their accent. From the word Greigo which means Greek!

    RD -

    152, 172, 172 W/XP and beechcraft. Private, no instrument.

Actually, I haven't been up in a while, let my medical lapse, so I'd only make a chartholder too! If you've got an instructor rating, then I can get current on the trip...

But, it seems like a fun trip! I can land at West Palm via Southwest and hook up at the fuel stop.

seems like a long run without a restroom break!

I guess peeing out the window would be a little dangerous at the altitude.

5 hours isn't bad not having a bathroom. I mistakenly drank to early into the flight last time but was more knowledgable on the way back.

I will answer for RD, he isn't an instructor. Otherwise I was hoping to get some time myself.

PS. You are freaking crazy to fly without an instrument rating!!! Lots of traffic out there I felt very safe with ATC watching us but would have been scared shitless if they weren't.

Are you saying that a plane this size doesn't come equiped with a port-a-potty?

Nope. You can get a hand-held urinal though.

It's just easier to plan your fluid intake. DT can vouch for this. It's really no big deal at all.

The plane has a 6.5+ hour range (not that I'd want to fly it that long...).

I guess I can hold it for 4 hours.
