If newbies and veterans alike can read what Yayow said as a kind of refresher course.
I wasnt in Sosua for 24hrs when I had major chica drama. After the
pop she wanted to "renegotiate" the
TLN deal and leave. Lower payment was offered and I stuck to my guns. Well to say she went nuts is an understatement , lifted the glass beer bottle that she had brought back from Classicos and threatened me with it.
She probably thought your average Gringo would back down pretty quickly but I was brought up poor and in a rough part of the world and it didnt phase me too much.
Not having the desired effect she then upped the ante by smashing the bottle and again threatening me with pointy end. Hmmmmmm...interesting I thought.
First time in a 3rd world country and this is what happens. I realise quickly that I'm at a disadvantage here. Supposed to be away on "business" so cant go home with any marks or cuts and not knowing how far I can push defending myself in an unfamiliar country , or end up in the cells while they investigate an incident.
The amount of money was very small (to a gringo), 500pesos or so extra for TLN , she settled for 200 and left.
If your new and dont speak the language too well just be aware of yourself and your surroundings.
I'm in the process of arranging another trip so it hasnt put me off one bit!!
