What kind of camera do you have?

I am camera shopping. I want to get something small before my next trip. I have a 8mp 12x optical zoom camera. The big zoom lens is too much for taking fotos at the bars. It's ok if I am just taking pictures in the room.

What kind of camera do you use to take pictures of the chicas?

I need ideas. I know I need ISO for night time shots.

Used canon elphs back in day. . . . .. my fave was a SLIM sony that they do not make any more. . . . .thiinist digi cam I ever saw. . .. . . I now use this. . . ..http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...al_Camera.html

Pretty damn slim, and honestly takes better pics than my canons or sony did. I have 2 now. Lost a charger so bought a 2nd camera. Before I head out on a trip I charge the old cam. . . . .take the new one and charger with me and leave old cam with novia. . . .so she can take pics while I am gone.

I have an HP digital camera, but my iPhone camera has been my monger photojournalism workhorse. The 3G S has video with sound-- I am getting that next.

Nikon Coolpix. 8 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lense. Takes great pics and is tiny enough to fit inside of a shirt pocket. Not that I really take a ton of pics on my DR trips anymore.

I do, however, plan on taking a bunch on my virgin Rio trip.

Yup. Mine cost less than $200, and it's been all the camera I've needed for the past couple of years.

Re: What kind of camera do you have?

Nowadays you dont need the super expensive camera for digital phots. In fact at the higher resolutions its generally a waste since the photo will be so large that shrinking to webpage, email, or screen size will make the picture look worse than the original.

I've a Canon 520 but I've never made pictures of the chicas. Maybe this year if I'm not too busy.

Re: What kind of camera do you have?

In my opinion... buy the least expensive camera you can get that still does what you want.

That way, if you lose it or it gets stolen, you won't break the bank replacing it.

It sounds fundamental, but many guys (including me) buy more camera than they need and are risking a significant loss. When something happens, they lose big. Speaking from experience.

Further, the better your camera is, the more tempting it would be to anyone with access to it.

Bring two (large) memory cards and take some touristy pics on the second.

Put the real deal in your pocket and the touristy one in the cam when you're coming and going, in case someone gets nosey.

Re: What kind of camera do you have?

I agree with ElP about getting the least expensive camera that does the job for you. Spending less means that you will carry it around more, use it more and then get more value from it.

I would also add that size is also a premium, The smaller the camera is then it is likely you with have it with you and therefore get greater value out of it

I bought a Samsung L100 before my last trip for $100, it is 3.5"x2.2"x0.8" and weighs 4oz. Even this seemed to be a pain to carry around and stayed in my hotel room for the most part.

That said, I really do not like playing around with gadgets and tend to not be an early adopter of technology.

Re: What kind of camera do you have?

I brought a http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canons5is/ with an external flash and ended up not even taking it out of the safe....

I rolled with http://www.dpreview.com/news/0902/09021805canond10.asp at all times...the wrist strap made it useful and virtually unsnatchable...great pictures, video, shock proof, waterproof (pictures and video) up to 33 feet. I ended up with 475 pictures on an 8gb card. I'm not sure how close I came to filling it up. Battery light came on once during a week long trip. It's the truth. I copped it on ebay.

Re: What kind of camera do you have?

I am not a camera buff or tech freak like a lot of guys, and really don't take that many pictures, but I got a Kodak Easy Share C813 (8.2mp with a 3x zoom), more than enough for what I want to do, and not expensive and small enough to fit in my pocket, so I won't forget it or leave it somewhere, if I had a few.

Re: What kind of camera do you have?

I just bought my THIRD Casio Exelim 10.1 megapixel, and another eye-fi card, for wireless downloading to my pc.

Got the camera with a 4gb card for 119 bucks on Amazon, and it was a killer deal. (although I won't be using the card)

The eye-fi card is one of the greatest gadgets on the planet, in my estimation.

    Wireless downloading is TITS!!!

The Sony Cybershot has better audio on the video than the Nikon, don't ask but it's true. The Nikon however is better when you make homemade movies and you can use the telephoto lens also-at least mine does. I am now using the S610 but I will get another Sony Cybershot as a backup.
