Long Stay in DR -- Visa question

In terms of visas, how would I go about staying in DR for a few months? Do I just buy additional tourist cards when i enter? How do you go about extending a stay?

Just buy the normal tourist card. You will pay a surcharge on exit on a sliding scale depending on how long you have overstayed 28 days. I cannot remember the actual amounts but they are fairly modest. For more info search on DR1.

I stayed 36 days and they charged me 800 pesos when I left. No hassles, just hand them the money. 30-90 days = 800 pesos.

As Choirboy correctly states, the lowest is from 30 days to 3 months @ 800 pesos.
It then rise in steps to the highest, over 5 years @ 17,000 pesos.
