This is great info and I think its another great thing about this site that other people go above and beyond by sharing good info like this. I just can't imagine why or how someone could get upset over this.

I saw some pics from the last one that hit Santo Domingo. I feel sorry for the ones that lose their homes. When your in a tin shack it doesn't take much of a wind.

And I wouldn't want to be outside when those tin sheets start flying around.

And you know the chicas don't like to leave their homes when it is really raining hard.

That puts a damper on my STRUDEL release sessions.

    Damn that TS Erika.

I'm flying into Santiago at 1:02 PM on Saturday from Atlanta on Delta. It will be interesting to see whether they decide to cancel the flight or not.

No need to cancel the flight. Hurricanes can not hit the Dominican Republic.
All things considered, I'd rather be fucking.

    Re: Tropical Storm Erika

Its gonna be a tropical wave when it hits the DR but the timing of your flight is not good if your coming in on Saturday since it's supose to be right over the island that day. The airport here in Puerto Plata is not equiped with Cat.III intrument approach landings like in the US which means the pilot will need certain minimums (clouds ceilings and visibility ) to land. Good luck hope you make it in safe.

Re: It's that time of year for my Hurricane threads!(TS ERIKA)

    GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!(looking very weak) Sept 2nd 8pm

    ERIKA
Tropical Storm Erika formed in the Atlantic Tuesday afternoon but is barely a Tropical Storm Tonight. As of 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Erika is centered just west of Guadeloupe in the Leeward Islands and is moving off to the west at 1 mph.

Due to shearing winds aloft, much of the shower and thunderstorm activity is displaced to the east and southeast of the circulation center. This has caused Erika to be disorganized with top winds of only 40 mph.

The forecast calls for Erika to move west to west-northwest while remaining a very weak tropical storm and possibly weakening to a tropical depression or even a remnant low by Saturday over Hispanola.

Erika will pass through the Leeward Islands tonight and tomorrow with locally heavy rain.

Tropical storm warnings are posted for the northern Leeward Islands including Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Angulla, St. Maarten, Saba, St. Eustatius and Guadeloupe. A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 24 hours.

Tropical Storms watches have been posted for the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 36 hours.

Erika is be capable of producing heavy rain, flooding and gusty winds in the northern Leeward Islands as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts are possible in the northern to central Leeward Islands. Puerto Rico may see 2 to 5 inches with localized amounts of 6 inches.

    Sept 3rd - 3am - ANTIGUA

    Subject: ERIKA 2 a.m...

"RAIN RAIN HAS COME... It has been a steady rain for some time now and my house is flooding as the rain runs down the hurricane shutters and comes under - not an ideal design!!! ... does not seem like much wind from INSIDE. .. but RAIN FOR SURE... and the odd bit of thunder.

I just spoke to our Met Office and the main part of the storm has passed over Antigua and is in the Caribbean Sea, but there is a large cloud mass to the east that will continue to dump rain and the odd thunder storm
on us for the rest of the dark and into the morning hours. They say the air port should open tomorrow.

In 1995 on SEPTEMBER 3rd and 4th we were facing the Catagory 4 HURRICANE LUIS that was so destructive so this is a walk in the park in comparsion.

There is concern for some of our low lying areas where homes could flood. I am on the highest hill on the Atlantic side of the island so flooding is not one of my personal concerns ( except under the hurricane shutters...
and am already mopping that up! )... guess i will try to get some sleep...."

Re: It's that time of year for my Hurricane threads!(TS ERIKA)

sounds like a rainy weekend for the DR.......
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
from my personal experiences with weather on da islands is that the local business people are very defensive when it comes to any negativity towards their business or anything that might influence whether a tourist will or will not be in Paradise.......

and right before a hurricane hit once in Jamaica mi saw all the local joes boarding cottages and business's and of course hoarding things as can be expected.........while the resort and restaurant owners were telling us that only the rain is going to fall and just kind of brush it off........not all.......but you be surprised how many acted openly that way with that positive attitude that time........but I know a lot of dem inside themselves were praying that their business would be still standing after the storm passes thru......which in this case some weren't!

so I guess dem have to stay positive under all circumstances like any business......to stay in business

For an up to the minute look at the current weather conditions on the North coast, I like to look at live web cams. This doesn't help with forecasting storm conditions but it does show me how bad a storm really is when it is over the DR (until the power goes out).

Check the live wecams at http://hotelkaoba.com/. Hotel Kaoba is a Chica friendly hotel in Cabarete their website has links to live cams that let you look around the hotel and Cabarete beach.
