    Portofino resturaunt

The resturaunt was next to the Portafino Hotel/guest house in Puerto Plata. Franz the owner moved it across the street . Does anybody know the name of it. They had awesome pizza and atmosphere.

    Re: Portofino resturaunt

The best resturaunt I've been too. I had my first DR dinner at Franz's place at the Portofino in 2004. Then he moved to a new location across the street.. I coudn't think of the name.In March of 2009 my brother and I had dinner with a couple of chicas there. Over the years my brother and Franz became friends. and we visit him at the La Tarapa Resturaunt Great place to eat.
    Thanks Bachag

    La Tarappa

    La Tarappa.

Trust Bachag (apart from his spelling). He knows a thing or two about where and where not to go in the Puerto Plata area. I have heard only good about this restaurant and hope to go there from time to time now I am living in PP.

It was hard to evaluate on my one visit there to date. It was two years ago during a tropical storm. When we arrived it was empty and the manager had just told the staff he would close up and they could all go home early to safeguard their homes (although we did not realise this until after we had ordered or we would not have stayed). Naturally when the five of us arrived he changed his mind and the staff had to stay so we did not enjoy the most cheerful service.

We sat out on the covered terrace but the rain was driving sideways so we all got soaked through. The staff huddled miserably beside the bar looking at the crazy gringos and their putas having a good time (except that Braces doesn't look too amused in this picture).

The meal was good but the food and drinks were somewhat diluted with rainwater.
