some suggestions for planning a trip

I am going to the DR on Sept. 12, 2009 with a small group of newbie's, this is a quick write up I made for them, they will be going for 1 week, and I will be there for three.

    1. Bring at least $1000.00 cash, our hotel will be $55 a night, times 7
days for a total of $ 385. I can get a lot cheaper hotels but they are
not in the prime area, I will show you when we get there and let you
    decide.

    2. Of the $1000.00 bring at least $100.00 in one dollar bills this is
a must, great for tipping hotel staff, motochoncos and the chicas.

    3. There really is no dangerous crime in the DR., yes it does exsist but the main one for us....The biggest crime you
have to be aware of are the girls themselves. They are always on the
look out for a chump or a drunk. They will often come up to you on the
street or in the bar and start to hug and kiss you and rub up all over
you while at the same time they will pickpocket your wallet. These girls
are professionals at this so be smart. I was raised in Philadelphia so
my street smarts are always on. Here are some common sense ways to help
    yourself.

    A. Take only the minium cash you need, for the time you are going out,
example quick run to the store only take $20, not $100.
    B. ALWAYS put your wallet in your front pocket.
    C. Always have a hidden amount somewhere else on your body.
    D. Do not over BLING, BLING with gold chains, rings etc.
    E. Beware of tag team girls that will distract you.

    4. Food in restaurants in DR are relatively cheap however the
grocery stores are expensive. If you like to drink, Rum is extremely
cheap in the stores and beer is a little cheaper than in the states, but
is a lot stronger with a good flavor, Presidente is the name of the main
    local beer.

    5. Again I rented a car so we will be mostly traveling in it, however
if you decide to do something on your own there are motoconcho's
everywhere that will give you a ride anywhere for less than a $1. A
motoconcho is a motorcycle and you ride on the back, this is one of the DR main
taxi system. I paid for the car I just ask that you guys help me out
with the gas money, gas is around $4 a gallon.
We will be flying in the Santiago from there it will take us a
little over an hour to hit Puerto Plata depending on traffic. I may get
a little lost in Santiago so maybe a little more. Once we hit the North
of DR I know that area like the back of my hand. From Puerto Plata we
head to Sosua which is 20 minutes up the road. We will look for a
hotel, I will let you choose which one based on the area there are three
really good one all @ $55 a night. Once we get our hotel I plan on
going out right away as Sat. night is the best night to go out, If you
decide to rest at the hotel and not go out I understand. The first
place we will hit is the main drag where all the action is. There will
be literally hundreds of women trying to get your attention. All the
clubs in this area will play pretty good music, mostly reggaton and
bachata mixed with the newest US music. If you like a girl here just
wink or call her over and she will teach you how to dance the local
moves, it's that easy. If you take a girl to your hotel for the night
beware not all girls are like this but plan on it any way; These girls
look and act like SUPER MODELS but in reality most are dirt poor.
    A. Before you go out to the clubs always prep your room for a guest
meaning put all your valuables in the room safe money, passport laptop
etc... Some of these girls will take anything..

    B. After a night of dancing, you and her may want to take a shower,
again some of these girls have no shame and will try and use your
toothbrush and other items. I usually buy some cheap toothbrushes and
other items from the Dollar store for my trip along with condoms from
    the USA.

    C. If she is staying all night with you, before you goto sleep, be sure to scan the room again for
any valuables camera, phone, ring, necklace etc. an again lock up in
safe, once she knows you are no chump every thing should be a ok.
Speaking of cell phones I will have a cell phone for each of you,
you just need to pay to get it activated @ $10 this will help us be a
little more independent and still be in touch plus it is great to set up
later appointments with the girls and remembering there names as you
progra Sosua is a nice little beach town where every water sport is
available from scuba diving to deep sea fishing, beautiful restaurants
right on the beach, shops, therapeutic massages for $14 an hour,
Casinos and just about anything else you can think of.beloe are some
links if you want to check it out.

I have not been to the DR in 2 years so prices my have changed, however, I am on a couple of sites where I keep fairly accurate of the chica news from most of the intel that I have read, on the best site,INsearchofchicas, a short time chica 1-3 hours should run antwhere from free to 1500 pesos and a TLN should run from free to at the most if you totally get suckered 3000 pesos. If the chicas does a TLN with you , give her 50 pesos to catch a motochonco in the morning. When at the clubs, if you buy drinks for the chicas, tell them beer only, some will want the good stuff, that is cool if you really want to though.
In Sosua we will also hit the afterhour casino clubs where most girls go after everyone else closes. along with the clubs are great massage parlors, hair salons, hotels, casino's, the street and the beach for chicas. Almost any woman you fancy is available if you talk right or have game. Some are married or operate a business but that dosn't mean she is off limits, this area is play the situation out.
From Sosua we will goto Puerto Plata where I need to be a little careful, I have a lot of family in this city as of 20 years going down to the DR, I have never been fronted out yet, I am 100% sure my family knows what I do, but they never say anything, It's good to be a male... Here I will take you to the main tourist traps like Crystals and bOHIEM AWESOME GIRLS JUST WAY OVER PRICED, I will get in touch with some of my local Dominican friends and maybe get the salida fee waved like last time I was down there. From here we will hit the 20 or so scattered dance/brothels all local dominican very cheap with mostly ugly girls but still fun and occasionlly a pretty one. The carwash in PP is the most fun area in my eyes and there are always chicas bith p4p and regulars, which you end up paying for anyways, drinks clothes, etc.. I have found out there really are no real freebies in the DR, you always end up paying somehow. then to places like BB and FOD. One GREATTTTT area for chicas is the Malecon it dosen't matter day or night always women .. My EX mother in law was the Dean for PP schools, in doing this she knows everyone in the city, we will use her networking for great rates and for deeply discounted soviners. Guys we will have a great time in the DR, remember EVERYTHING in the DR is a possiblity and never agree on the first price they give you ,always low ball it to more than half and slowly go up from there. I will tell you more when we meet in Miami as I am sure I missed some things. AS for Insearchofchica members I will be in the DR from Sept. 12 till the 29 of sept. hit me up if you want to meet up. I am not sure if the admin will block this site but goto http://funinthesundominicanrepublic.shutterfly.com/ and view some of my pictures.

i'm gonna have to disagree with (B) & (D)........... Cash Money says to "Always put your wallet in your front pocket".... Thats a big no no !!!! Leave the wallet in the safe and only take the pesos you need for the time you are going out. Why risk loosing your credit cards , drivers license etc. Cash Money says "Don't over bling bling with gold chains , rings etc. How about DON'T bling bling at all with gold chains, rings etc. Youre not gonna impress no chics in DR with your jewelry!! Do yourself a favor and leave it home , these broads are only interested in your money.

    Good info.

I 100% agree with the previous posters about wallets and NIL bling.

Also better to get your guys to think in pesos instead of dollars. If they use dollars they will suffer from "rounding up" prices.

Hope you will write up your tour of Puerto Plata clubs and bars as these are not much covered here apart from the obvious ones. I hope to submit a PP guide myself one day but that is a long way off as I am still at the early learning stage.

    Have a good trip!

Re: some suggestions for planning a trip

Making a few copies of the passport was some of the best advice I have heard. I keep one with me, one with someone I trust back home and one locked up in my luggage. The passport will not see the light of day until I am ready to go home. I have not made a purchase with my passport yet. I don't know if they will accept the copy. (?) I don't wear jewelry, but if a person wants to where jewelry is a personal choice. There is a risk of getting it snatch just like if you wear it to the wrong place in the U.S. As poor as the people are in the DR, there will always be someone near that wants to take it. If the oportunity is there the bold ones have done this before and hoped on a motoconcho as I have read in another thread.

I disagree with the statement that the girls are not impressed. They are impressed. They like the site of nice clothes and jewelry like any other woman, but ultimately they are there for the money. They will take about anyone with the cash to pay. I don't know if they deal with a guy that stinks.(?)

    Good info.
Does anyone have any info on cost of airfare? (from SE U.S.)
    Which (major) airlines?
What is the easiest way to make reservations ( airfare and hotel)?
What is the airport to fly into/where is the easiest place to connect?
Any idea of STD rates (love bbbj)?
Thanks. I'm sure I will think of more questions later.

This is all good stuff. Stuff that I have seen posted many times over the years, but it can't be said enough. We all have out own tips, tricks, preferences, and hard lessons learned. And we all share it so we can all get better at this. You can find out all about it by reading trip reports while you mastermind your own getaway.
All things considered, I'd rather be fucking.

I've never been to DR, but i've been to PI several times. I'm trying to figure out how to post a few of my PI pics, but it says I "can't start a new thread".

Nice set up. I cant wait to hear about it
It aint over till I am done!!!
