psriches and I stayed at the Colonial in Santiago and it was very comfortable and relaxing.
I stayed at the Matum one time this past Fall. I didn't like it. My room was shitty and no TV. My air-conditioner sounded like a lawnmower. Only good thing is there is a casino and a night club in the hotel. But I have stayed at better hotels for cheaper in STI.Originally Posted by psriches
Dominicans seem to think it’s a nice hotel....mainly because of the casino and club. But that doesn't matter to me. I won't stay there again
I will post the number and contact info when I get home
During a recent secret mission to Santiago, i stayed at the Hotel Matum and Casino (pronounced "ma toom").
The rooms are completely renovated in a modern fashion chic. Think fancy bathroom sink, thick wood doors/furnishings, TV, air cond, fully stocked fridge, comfortable bed, parking, very clean and modern. Chica friendly. Heard there was a pool as well.
Very classy joint that i recommend!
Located next to a Casino and down the street from the Monument.
$55-$70 including tax and time of year.
Also, there is an interesting exhibit about the 1965 invasion of DR and the trouble they had there at the time. They actually have pictures of some of the shooting and killing that took place right at the Hotel.

This information mentions the Hotel.

yea...me and my boy aventura stayed at this place once! very nice.
Aloha Sol is always a good choice. Central location, about $60 a night, nice people, chica friendly, free parking, safe and fridge in room, decent breakfast - and a free welcome drink
Someone say free drink??? I'll be staying there at the end of my birthday bash week 5 days Sosua, 3 days in Santiago. I was told Ahola Sol was a good place to stay....I'll file a trip report in about 3 weeks
A little more than a year ago, I stayed at the Aloha Sol. Nice hotel, but the rooms are small (a full bed and two feet on each side) and many do not have windows (reminds me of some of the NYC short stay hotels in Manhattan twenty years ago).
Side note - Right around the corner (on the same street that the Mcdonalds is on) was another hotel. I remember it had a nice lobby and seemed very professional (uniformed personnel, etc.). I spoke with the attendant and the nightly rates were even less that the Aloha Sol.
I forgot the name of the hotel, but has anyone stayed there?
