Exchanging Money at Night in Sosua

Hotel Europa will exchange money 24/7.

    My findings April '04:
As a non-guest I exchanged $100US without a problem got 43RD and only got 43.40RD earlier that day.
I saw a guest exchange $300US at the same rate interestingly he was asked for his key so maybe there is a limit but with the current rate if $100US won't last you until the next morning you are doing something wrong.

Boy oh boy, ya got that right.

Unless ya use 100 peso notes to lite your cigarettes, $100 US is a shit-load of money for 1 day.

    100US a year later

Ok does anyone think $100 US is a shitload of money to spend in a day in Sosua as of today? Interesting since its been 18 months since the previous post. What would you consider now a ridiculous amount to spend in one day?

    Meals

What kind of meal do you get for 300 pesos? I would think a nice seafood meal would be like $40 us at least.

I eat snitzel sandwiches for 120 pesos. Baileys has a Surf and Turf for 500 pesos. I only eat at Rockies or Baileys these days.

You don't drink Jimmy, most of us do. That is easily another 700 for the day. If you buy the chicas a drink? I normally go through close to 100 US per day.

If you make a rookie mistake thats another 1500

See a rookie mistake is having $300 USD in my wallet. My wallet was locked in the safe.

    Heh

When I was at the bar in my pic posts no wonder the guy cleared the bar when I took out a $100US bill. There was 4 of us and I asked the manager if we could sit at the bar. He asked which side and made about 14 people get up for us.

Surf and turf for 500 pesos? Is this considered a high end restaurant , middle price, or low end?

I guess one should keep an eye on their keys and money from the chicas stealing at all times. Are they all like this? If I catch a chica trying to rummage through my pockets she isn't going to be happy with what happens next.

hitting a chica or any dominican for that matter would likely be a mistake in the longrun however i did have some fun restraining a violent chica with wrist and arm locks. for some reason she didn't like having her head in the gutter the policia that came thought it was funny and they laughed her and her motoconcho chulo all the way to the jail in puerto plata!

i got in no trouble at all and it only cost me 500 pesos for both of them. they were in jail almost 2 weeks! crack makes people desparate and crazy! 8O

    Pickpockets

What would you suggest for dealing with a pickpocket chica? Call the police?

it depends on when you notice but ya. if you get her early i'd just push her put of the way and then report he. take her pic if you can. jimmy says 2 reports and the policia will deal with her.

if not restrain her and hollor for the policia...someone will get them and they'll deal. do not get caught hitting her. then you are considered in the wrong. there's always a way to get them in the end...just ask jimmy

    Memory card

I have currently 2.5Gigabytes of Camera memory. Thats good for either 2.5 hrs of video or about 3000 pictures at the highest resolution. I can unload them to a laptop every day and burn them to a dvd or just store on the laptop so I think I will be ok.I was actually thinking about uploading them to the internet while I was overseas but well see about that I guess

i wouldn't bother with the internet. i'd burn them on dvd and keep them in my carryon i think. no evidence on the laptop and no wasting time on the internet. it would take you FAR too much time to upload that volume. just make 2 copies as backup...

OK... here we go bringin back old threads but i might as well add... I was there a few weeks ago... I brought $1700 USD with me... And also $400 US in Dominican Pesos... So thats $2100 USD... I was there for 6 nights 7 days... Including my hotels, food, drinks, girls, other entertainment, and 20 cartons of ciggs (yes 20)... I came home with 400+ USD and 200 in pesos... so thats about $1500 for a week including hotels and all i wanted to do... if you take off the $300 in cigarettes then i spent $1200... I think thats about right...
