04/2010 - Sosua Newbie Advice from a Newbie

gb, I've played Coordinator in the past. I prefer to travel solo now but if I ever did travel in a group again the most I would do would be to let everybody know what flight I'm taking, and provide a short list of hotels and let everybody make their own goddamned arrangements.

One of the downsides to serving as the Coordinator for everybody is that, if/when shit goes wrong, you're also forced into the role of "the Fixer." You're the guy who everybody goes to to fix problems since you're the guy who set everything up. You're the guy who, if/when shit goes wrong, will enjoy his vacation the least.

Do your homework regarding everything. With that number of people I would prefer a hotel that can accomodate all of you. Then you are not sharing houses ect so if things go bad between any of the group it won't matter too much. Renting houses will require taxi trips to and from. Thats a pain in the ass for 10 people because you will all be coming and going at different times. Places like Casa Cayena and Victorian House can accomodate that number with reservations made far enough in advance. They might also include breakfast in the price for renting 10 rooms. Never know unless you ask. There are plenty of other hotels in town as well.

The only real upside to renting a villa is having a private pool where chicas can be naked ect..

I think you guys are underestimating my group... We've all grown up together and we've taken guys trips in the past... Granted this ones gonna be a little different haha but we are all pretty cool, don't get upset over bs, and money isn't an issue... And 4 of us speak spanish fluently

I was just looking for more current advice on places to stay and places to go out to while I read through as many trip reports as I can, that's all

We were also debating going to Jaco Beach after reading some of the stuff going on recently in Sosua

You are right. Sosua is not any good for you and your group. I think Jaco would be a better locale for your group.

You wasting your time setting this up. The nine other guys will drive you nuts.

I have hosted a trip for 8 where I set up the hotel rooms, coordinated flights in and out, arranged ground transportation, put an entertainment itinerary together and shepherded Guys though their interactions with the locals. About half of them were fish out of water. They stayed for different durations from 3-6 nights and I was on a 10 day trip. The last 3 nights it was just me and a couple hard core road dogs left and we had a ball. The rest of the time, not so much. I'm glad I did that....ONCE! Some People should simply avoid foreign travel.

Thank you, a very accurate post from a newbies perspective. You will find things somewhat different, in good ways, when you learn a little Spanish and are around more often...like lower chica prices, etc...

I am am a legitimate newbie to the game....I have not been to any countries for hobbying...I've done some light hobbying in the states...and literally just as I was getting my feet wet (just about 11 months into my hobbying "career" ) a vet referred me to ISOC.

I was initially planning to make my first appearance in DR early April but I may have to push those plans back due to work and other obligations to May.....overall I'm excited but nervous at the same time..

I have read enuff reports thus far to know no amount of reading will prepare me for what I will experience during my "virgin" trip. 😁😁😁
