Thanks for the newbie advice. I am currently doing research for a trip to the DR, and everything that you said makes sense. I have been traveling and mongering in Asia for the past 9 years, with one trip to Costa Rica. Its getting harder for me to take month long trips, so hopefully the DR will work for me.

I think it's fair for me to say that if the DR worked for me, it'll work for anyone ...

And with 'the past 9 years' of mongering under your belt, you should know the playbook.

I will say that the more Spanish you have, the better you'll get along in the DR. (Though I've been told it's more important to understand it well, than it is to speak it well.)

Thanks for taking the time to put all this info together, taking my first trip to Sousa in August and decided to get as much info as I can. Wingman visited in April, but only have one trip under his wing. Never hurts go get more and newer info.

Coming back for my 4th trip. Is Sosua still a party 24/7? Got people telling me it's quieted down. Say it ain't so. Classicos? CMP? Passions? PJ's restaurant?
