Yeah.. they just instituted carry-on fees.. That's another $20-40 they can "lower" fares by. It's not about the base fare. It's the total cost of flight that matters.

    Re: Spirit Airlines BIG SALES.

you have to buy a membership to get the $9 fares ($9 fare club - $39.95) so tack another $40 onto that fare. if you fly spirit a few times a year and can take advantage of the $9 fares more than once it's probably worth it. if not then that fare can quickly become $70 when you add in the membership and that bullshit carry-on charge, more if you're checking a bag as well.

If you wait until the last minute and fly from NYC the price point to POP is around $600...

On average the flights to DR from NYC range from $350 - $600...

It all depends on how flexible your schedule is.

    Re: Spirit Airlines BIG SALES.

You guys have to get your facts straight. I've been flying Spirit for a little over 2 years. the most I've paid round trip anywhere I've gone from Ft.Lauderdale is $189 for a last minute flight to Sosua.Deezl is right you have to join the $9 fare club BUT if you get the Spirit MasterCard there is no $39.95 fee as long as you make one purchase a month. You can buy anything anywhere (gas, restaurant pussy, whatever)it doesn't have to have anything to do with the airline. When you do that you get automatic month to month membership to the $9 fare club for zero, zip, nada, nothing. You also get 15,000 free miles which is good for 3 round trip tickets to any where they fly in Central America or the Islands. Of course there are certain periods that you can not use these miles but you can book on the dates you want any time you want. You can go most of Sept.,a couple of weeks in Oct.,Nov. and Dec. each this year. Each trip uses 5,000 miles (from Ft.Lauderdale) unlike your average large carrier where it can be thousands and thousands of miles to go anywhere and still have some restrictions. Also if you go to DR, as an example, whatever the milage is round trip from where you live they put that back on your account. In my case when I fly to DR from Ft.Lauderdale its about 1500 miles round trip.So it costs me 5000 miles to get the ticket and after the flights are over they put that 1500 miles back in my account so it really only costs me 3500 miles. Now remember you still have to pay the taxes for these tickets but my trip to DR in Sept.is costing me around $108 dollars.I would have to look back on the bill to get the actual charge but its right around that amount. Also everyone is screaming about the baggage. If you have the mastercard and or you are a member of the $9 dollar fare club it is $20 dollars not $45 to check a bag or carry one on.So let me see.......$108+20=$128 round trip to Dr and lets see....Jet blue around $350....Hmmmm where does the smart money lie???In hugrad95a's list up top you could go to Santiago for $1 dollar each way, plus tax,Santo Domingo $9 each way plus tax,Medellin for $39 each way plus tax(fares from Ft.Lauderdale)as you can see in his post its more from NYC but if you can find cheaper fares or you want to spend your money another way, knock your self out. This guy is flying Spirit in Sept to DR for about $108RT,Medellin in Oct for about $98RT and back to DR again in Nov. for around $108 RT.Thats $314 dollars for three RT tickets, add in $60 for baggage it =s $374 dollars. From what I see everywhere I look there is no fucking way anyone is getting from Ft.Lauderdale to these 3 places round trip for that kind of money. As a matter of fact it will probably cost you somewhere within a $100 of this price just to go on one trip.As I've said many times before,.spend your money any way you want to but I see a lot of pussy in the differences in prices!! Also these sales are not a once in awhile thing. They usually put out a list like this every Teusday and they give you 2 days to make the reservation. One more thing.....with the Spirit Mastercard you get to skip the long lines at check in as they let you go first!!You can also board the plane before others.

What's the quality of flying Spirit are the lines long. Are they on time. Are the flights extremely rocky. I may start taking advantage of the flights to S.A.

    Re: Spirit Airlines BIG SALES.

So I decide to actually check the Spirit site vs using Kayak like I usually do.

    NYC (LGA) to MDE:
    $9 Trial membership
    $312.70 RT Flight + taxes
    $20 baggage fee
    - $50 coupon.

So the total flight is $300.17. Is that right? Am I missing any hidden fees?

    Re: Spirit Airlines BIG SALES.

hugrad95a its a fucking airline... nothing to do with the company if the fucking weather throws the plane around a little. happens all the time on all airlines. Again, hows your credit?? Get the MasterCard and wether the lines are long or not you need not worry. In Ft.Lauderdale depending on how many Spirit flights are leaving around the same time the international departure line can get pretty long. Just wondering what kind of a deal you could get if you found a cheap flight to Ft.Lauderdale and then did the sometimes $1 each way flight to Santiago??

It depends how far in advance you book. If it's next month, it's going to be 11 hour layover. If it's in 3 months, it's only like 1.5 hours.
