Just wondering what kind of a deal you could get if you found a cheap flight to Ft.Lauderdale and then did the sometimes $1 each way flight to Santiago??
Well the rockiness depends on what planes the airlines have. The small planes tends to be more rocky.

BTW, Spirit was rated the worst airline in terms of on-time. I've had several friends recently bitching about their delayed flight from FLL to NYC.

I wish people would stop hawking $1.. Spirit has really brainwashed you! The cost of the flight is tickets + taxes + fees.

Thanks for the intel. 79 each way is still pretty good. I know taxes and fees will bump it up another 130 at least.

$312 is actually pretty good.. Contemplating it.. I'll probably wait until fall sales. I just wished I had jumped on the $399 direct with Avianca last month. I would pay an extra $80 for a direct flight in a heartbeat.

So just wondering.. Has anyone taken Spirit from NY to MDE? I'm worried about the connecting flight and all the negative press. Right now it's Spirit for around $312 (including bag fees) and the next closed on Kayak is $483 for October.. $171 is a big difference!! That is like 9 sessions at New Life!

Step out in faith man.Think of it like the first time you went mongering on your own. Those of us who have done this (I went to Sosua alone and on Spirit only to Santiago and then bus to Sosua) took a chance and for the majority of us it turned out great.I have no problem going anywhere alone and no problem what so ever flying Spirit.

    Re: Spirit Airlines BIG SALES.

    FYI, $50 coupon today!

Booked NY to MDE for $302.70 included baggage check! Next lowest is Avianca at $548! AA keeps going up at $583!

First Spirit flight! People hating on them... but saving me $250.. I'll take a chance!

The key to getting cheap AA flights is to check Travelzoo Supersearch several times a day.

I have checked 2xs prior during the day only to see a ticket fall 400 dollars at 9am so I buy WITHOUT hesitation .

That's a great fare with excellant flight schedule. Unfortunately, La Guardia doesn't work for me. I can't park over there, no public transportation running that early in the morning and taxi too expensive coming from way uptown. So i usually fish around and catch Avianca (with 2 meals and no extra fees)for $380. But if anyone is interested, the Spirit sale is running until Nov 14th travel date. But book quickly.

    Outstanding find Hioctane!!!!

there are a bunch of alert sites that will email you (and generally pretty quickly at that) whenever there's a price drop to whatever destinations you specify. i use farecompare's because it's one of the only ones that allows you to specify preferred airlines, but i'm sure the others work just as well.

    here's a comparison: http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/blog/...s-compare.html

The cheapest deal I saw before was $399 direct with Avianca! I think it was back in July.. I hadn't gotten approval from work so I couldn't book it. It hasn't been that low ever since and I'm checking several times a day. It's getting close to October and I didn't want to risk the flights being sky high. It's averaging $450, but this week it jumped up to $500 at one point! Maybe it's in preparation of a fall "sale". Keeping prices inflated and then a sale will look like an even bigger deal.

Where do you live? Uptown Manhattan? Public transportation runs 24 hours a day!

Negative, from uptown Bronx the only thing that's makes sense would be to connect with the 55 bus on 125 st harlem that goes straight to La Guardia. But that bus doesn't run 24 hours. It's starts running at about 5 or 6 in the morning, cutting it way too close for those early morning flights.

And on a side note, Buses and Trains in NYC do not run 24/7 in all neighborhoods. Only in Manhattan so it allows the MTA to hype 24/7. That is an unfortunate Myth!

But if you had an International flight that left before 7am, that would be cutting it too close for me.

"LIKE 24 hours"???? Gotta love New York!!

There are cities where the only thing open is a 7-11. If you have a car in NY you can see a movie, bowl, get your haircut and do any of 10,000 different things at 4am.

I'm looking at the map. Most major areas get 24 hour service including where I live in Brooklyn. It's selective I guess.

Here's an idea. Take taxi/car service to the nearest running train that goes to LGA.
