I felt the same way. I have excellent credit but wasnt given onyx either. But the card comes with alot of built in incentives and its already on my credit report as an inquiry. Ill keep it for a year and see how it goes. Also you cant use the 9$ fare club or miles for 45 to 60 days after your first purchase. To be sure miles dont expire us the card once a month. or earn 2000 miles every 6 months or something like that.

I'm half tempted to just cancel it when it arrives but I do want to call and ask them first what the deal is. Does anyone know the criteria for the ONYX card?
same happened to me, they probably have a threshold with how many onyx they give out.. i called and tried to get them to give me the onyx but it seemed like a waste of time, just fill out more apps on the plane for john doe, I get an extra 5k a month, i have over 50k miles in 4 months with the platinum, even after gifting a buddy a 5k certificate hehe

The $9 fare club costs $59 a year to be a member of.

    Re: Spirit Airlines BIG SALES.

I'm still a little shakey about Spirit... however the $363 Atlantic City - Medellin really has my attention. I have a question, though.

When I do a Kayak search, I come up with $363 fares available on Orbitz, Cheaptickets and Spirit website. When I start booking through Orbitz and Cheap, the total actually comes out to $363 including taxes and fees. When I book through the Spirit website (which advertised $363 on Kayak), I get a higher segment fare and fuel surcharge add-on bringing the total to $426. WTF...

    Thanks...

    Re: Spirit Airlines BIG SALES.

What dates? I tried an May 5th - 21st and it was 363.00 total through CheapTickets after taxes and 353.00 after taxes going directly through Spirit.

I also tried the 4th through the 19th (where the $9 club makes a difference) and the total was still 363 through cheaptickets but 213 going directly through Spirit.

One issue I saw on the spirit site: If I hit the back button and re-entered the dates and selected the cheaper flights it still gave me the 353 - don't use the back button on the spirit site, you will get some undefined behavior at times.

I tried some dates in May... dates that had the lowest fares. I'll play around some more with the sites and see what I come up with. Thanks, Talis.

the participating 3 1/2* hotel (sheraton) also has free airport pickup/dropoff - but it's a more expensive bid at $55-60 and they usually charge for internet and breakfast so i avoid them like the plague

but no, there are no guarantees with opaque travel inventory, only educated guesses. i woudln't expect any surprises, although they are possible. i live in hotels and travel constantly for work so i have to use priceline a lot. i'd say 75% of the time i know exactly what i'll be getting and 23% of the time i'll have a list of potential winning bids. only around 1 in 50 bids will i be surprised, and honestly it's usually for the better (like bidding $35-40 and getting an embassy suites or residence inn ... happens occasionally).
$47 winning bid for Best Western Fort Lauderdale Airport South Inn & Suites for the month of February. Hotel has free wifi, full breakfast and airport shuttle (6am-midnight) included.

Anyone got a take on Spirits new 5 k mile thing with ticket purchase?

I wanted my 50 dollar coupon I need to buy 2 dammit!

I see AA now is letting Priceline list it's fares after the Expedia Orbitz divorce.

I wonder if you low ball them you get a ticket-- I need to try LOL

If it's just part of the Air Tran merger (who already services Punta Cana), then no big deal.

If, on the other hand, they are opening up to SDQ, STI or POP, now THAT would be news....

cool, good luck. My main complaint w/ BW is that theyre inconsistent, some are great, some not so much. this one seems to get good reviews though. pls update if its good or not.
