    Extended stay

I am in the process of getting ready to come to the D R. I have booked an apartment in Costambar for three months. My question is, how do you handle the visa over the 30 day visitors stamp on your passport.
I will be there from Janurary 5th til April 5th 2011, Any input would be greatly apprecitated.

The overstay rates are as follows

    CODIGO DESCRIPCION TARIFA VIGENTE VIP
    032 De 30 dias a 3 meses 800.00 -
    033 De 3 meses a 9 meses 1,000.00 -
    034 De 9 meses a 1 aņo 2,500.00 -
    035 De 1 aņo a 1 aņo y 6 meses 4,000.00 -
    036 De 1 aņo y medio a 2 aņos 5,000.00 -
    037 De 2 aņos a 2 aņos y 6 meses 6,500.00 -
    038 De 2 aņos y medio a 3 aņos 9,000.00 -
    039 De 2 aņos a 5 aņos 14,000.00 -
    040 De 5 aņos en adelante 17,000.00 -

so if you are staying three months you should be paying 800 pesos. But knowing the Dominicans they will probably count the leaving day as the first day of a fourth month and charge you 1000 pesos. But, hey, what's 200 pesos between friends?

I would just hand them 800 pesos when your passport is checked and hope for the best.

I once stayed over four months for which the fee was then 850 pesos. The guy just put it straight into his back pocket. I learned later that I should have got a receipt otherwise I could have been hit again further along the process (but I wasn't).

I hope you have a great time. If you want to meet up sometime in Puerto Plata send me a PM.
