A trial system has been set up at Las Americas airport to use fingerprint recognition technology as part of the pre-flight security screening process.
The Director General for Migration and the Central Electoral Board hope this will help in preventing people leaving the country using forged papers. If successful it could be extended to all Dominican border control points and airports.
"With the implementation of this system, we are completing a long held aspiration and it will also bring us up to international standards," said Vice Admiral Pared Pérez, head of immigration, delivering the opening speech..
He said the target was to have the system installed across all control points by 2011.
WoW !! This would definitely make it very hard to flee if one decided that was the better option than rather become embroiled in the Dominican "justice system".
I've got 2 different passports and always carry both just in case.
Las Americas is the Santo Domingo airport
