    Need some quick advice

Anyone know a good place to take a non pro to dinner outside on the beach in Cabarete? I have a 'date' on Friday night.

Normally I would RTFF and research but I am on the ground and have no time for that. Thanks.

If you really want to impress, and your "date" has the right clothes and knows how to dress AND you don't mind potentially overpaying, a lot, for drinks and dinner then it's a no brainer...

    Nikki Beach Cabarete

Looks like it could be a lot of fun...like Miami on Playa Cabarete

    I'm "sure" they are.

Not been of course, it's brand new, and understand that it is about double what you might expect to pay in Sosua or even Cabarete BUT it's the most flashy and impressive place around.

Some good reviews and pix on DRivel!...I mean DR1

I was thinking equal to atmosphere and price of Bailey's(ish) But I don't want to be inside - on the beach is perfect for an afternoon.

What's wrong with Pedro McMurphy's? If you want to be on the beach... can't help you. Been to one: Barú, or something. Food was decent at best- romantic though (at night). It was the place that turns into the dance bar @ night- they pull in the tables.
Any of those places on the beach seem nice enough- the better question ia which has food worth the time! Anyone eat at the place with the lobster-tank out front?

Lax, has great food, and the palm tree seating on the beach. You will need the shade if your having lunch. Also, the brick oven pizzas there day or night is considered by most locals as the best on the beach. Especially the Hawaiian. Also check out their beach board on the happy hour specials for the day/night.

    Re: Need some quick advice

Just be aware that NO restaurant has dining tables outside on the beach for lunchtime. (Unless that has changed recently). Most places start putting their stuff out at around 4pm.

You will not get that feet in the sand experience but you will get a table right next to the beach (some have small wooden deck extensions)and they are all open for lunch.

What type of food do you want. They all do 'Bailey's' type fare.

Everyone on this board knows there are no such things as non-pros in the Dominican Republic Good luck.

    Re: Need some quick advice

Personally I dont think many dominicans are impressed with foolish spending - however I want it to be somewhere where she might not normally visit given her circumstances. I pay for quality and like the finer things, but I do them to enjoy my sucsess not impress anyone else. Hence going to a place that .
'charges' for status is not my thing. Any more recomendations........

Otherwise apomans place sounds ok. Dinner for 2 with drinks was 3000rd acording to DR1. (a little steep)

Just a regular menu - willie you know this place inside out - what do you think? I want to be 'near' the beach outside.

My DR experience is not all about banging putas - in fact they are just an added bonus.

I second this. Had forgotten about Lax.

Also, should it be open...Papi's has the best seafood I've ever had. Paella to die for!

They are all open to the beach. My suggestion would be to park up at one end and walk along beachside until you find one that you like. Like a 5 minute walk.

Start at Eze bar (next to the Bic surf shop and easy parking) and continue until Lax. Thats them all.

A lot of Dominicanas like Jose O'Sheas (maybe it's the little plastic fish they put on the cocktail glasses) and the american type menu.

Agreed, but Alfredo sold out a couple of months back. I hear the new owners are changing the menu.

Figures...he's hardly been there regularly, for years...a shame as the food was awesome!
