    searches at airport

This may be a silly question but here it is, Has anyone been subjected to the full body scans, and if so, from what I understand from watching t.v. That everything on your person and in your pockets have to be removed while in the scanner. Now the main thing I want to know, what if you are carring a large sum of money, as we all know money, and not travelers ckecks, are what carries the most weight there. How do you make sure the money is safe, and please dont say, keep your eyes open. You and I know they are always trying to think of ways to get the money from you and I think what a wonderful opportunity this presents.
Any of you guys had any dealings with this and what is your solutions.

when i went to the dr in august i was carrying 2200$ US on me the whole time flying there. i had it in my pocket at all times until i had to go through the scanners then at that time , i would take the money out of my pocket and place it in my lap top case which i always put in a seperate bin then everything else in my pockets. and as soon as i went through the scanner i would walk directly to my laptop case and reach in and put the money back in my pocket. pretty simple really. nothing to it. but yes you do have to keep your eyes peeled. at least it made me more comfortable to watch my laptop case. no matter what was goin on around me i never took my eyes off the bin line and kept my eyes right on my lap top bag till i got to it.

    Re: searches at airport

i carry two wallets when travelling . one is my regular one with credit cards, cash etc and the second one has my spending money. when i go thru the security i always stash them in the bottom of my back pack.......always keeping an eye on it.

when i get to my hotel my real wallet along with extra cash goes in my pac safe which then goes in the hotel safe and my travelling wallet goes in my left front pocket with two days supply of cash (i like to have cash on hand in case i see something extra i want)

Step into a scan with your money inside any type (waist, leg or trunk) of a fabric/plastic body belt or pouch. Since robbery still remains an issue, I would have a portion in TC.

They scan me everytime I'm in Miami and have never been asked to take my wallet out.

What is wrong with holding your wallet in your hand, I do it everytime!! I still would be uncomfortable having all my money separated for me.

There would be nothing wrong with it, that was my point, to know what you could do. I know when I have been through the line at the airport usually you place it all in the bins. As I said the t.v. news shows how they make you go through the full body scan and they make sure you have taken everything out of you pockets and nothing on your person.

    Re: searches at airport

Every flight I have taken when i pass through security I have two things in my hand. My wallet and my passport.

I empty my pockets, remove shoes, belts, etc. Just as directed. But I put wallet and passport in my hand. So the agent can see it. They know i have removed from my pocket.

I have never had an agent, Dominican or American say a word to me about it. They respect that the two most important things you are traveling with are money and passport.

    Re: searches at airport

i guess my question would be, what is the official stand the TSA has on going thru the scan with your wallet and passport in your hand??

it is one thing to secretly hide your cash and passport in a piece going thru the machine. quite another if forced to toss it in the dog dish at the last moment

I don't know what the official stance is. But again, over 7 trips that puts me through security 28 times with wallet and passport very visibly in my hand.

Oh yeh,and by the way the pat downs I've experienced have been done by chicas!!

I've got an Eagle Creek fabric security pouch for my money, passport, and a "just in case" bank card. It has a belt loop long enough to flip it inside the waistband of my slacks, so it's hanging behind my front pocket, and you'd have to look really hard to recognize the loop for what it is. It has carried the passport plus twenty-five Franklins without presenting any noticeable bulge.

Considering the news from Sosua, if a man travels from USA to Dominican Republic alone and has a lot of condoms in his baggage he might be in trouble.

So, I`d suggest to buy all condoms and Viagra here, not to have any chica related print outs or any materials and delete all the traces of ISOC, pictures and other mongering info from your laptop (from the hard drive)- use for it some online data storage.

As of Dec.3 mongering in DR becomes a grey zone by my assessment.

    Good luck!

This is what I use also. Sometimes I had to check it to make sure it was still there, it is that comfortable. Here is an extra tip. If you are carrying $2k in your hidden pocket, also carry $100 in your normal pocket. Most would be thieves will be happy to score $100 and won't bother to search you. the $100 is just a distraction.

Dude, you are taking the fear mongering to a whole new level. I am sorry, when did DR turn into North Korea? I must have missed that in the news. But seriously, thanks for the entertainment.
