    yes, long term, but you have to check on cost of cable, electricity, etc.

    check out www.dominicancentral.com classified ads, as well as dr1 classifieds to get an idea

    I think with an apartment in POP you will be able to get many more amigas that will be happy with well under 1,000 pesos per a visit.

    And the rent will be a LOT cheaper compared to a similar spot in Sosua.

    here is a link to a local "craigslist" type site;

    http://puertoplata.mundoanuncio.com.do/

    You can get a serious apartment in Puerto Plata for that kind of money but going through the normal channels as a gringo isn't suggested. I used a friend of my that does tours for Playa Dorado and he finds them for me.

    I got an unfurnished 1BR that had a 270 degree view of the ocean for 4,000 pesos a month, clean, nice and safe. Electricity 200 - 300 pesos, cable was 500 pesos a month (bought 2500 carjeta(box) up front).

    For the kind of money you are talking about, you can find a home near the Malecon, but not as a gringo shopping.

    What do you do with it, when you're not there?
