    Additional areas.....

Should we expand to include other areas and if so what areas?

Maybe we should add Asia, Carribean, South and Central America?

If so shall we move B o D to front of forum?

I think the minor activity on the board regarding other destinations pretty much indicates the interest that ISOC members have. There's not that much new or in-depth information about places in Asia, South America, etc. from the ISOC community as is.
Hell, there's not that much info in the New York section, and many ISOC members are New Yorkers.

I like ISOC cause it has created a real online community. Very personal. If it were to get too large, it could lose that quality.

It seems like this site is frequented mostly by the same 15 or so active posters. One of the great things about ISOC is it's specificness to DR and most importantly the total comprehensiveness that it offers. That alone is a feature that a more wide-reaching board like WSG cannot offer. It would just be too overwhelming if someplace like WSG had ISOC-like in-depthness for almost every destination. (At it's worst, it would be like an online "Walmart" -- very impersonal and mall-like.)

I mean, take a look at "all-encompasing" sites like bigtrick.net. It hasn't been around that long, but despite it's offering the opportunity to show pics from other places, it still is majority DR-centric.

I'm not saying that the online mongering community can't be united, but I like how sites like ISOC are strong in their respective areas. Jimmy, I think if you grow this site, you should first think of ways to strengthen what you already have (or at least unifying north coast with south coast mongers) before branching out too much.

Look at it this way: if I'm going out to eat, and I want a good steak, I'm not going to go to Applebees which has everything on the menu. I'm gonna go to Peter Lugers where steak is their specialty, and I know that I am going to get something of quality.

(Actually, Peter Luger is too expensive, but you get the idea).

Make this site THE PREMIERE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MONGER WEBSITE. Make it better by cribbing some of the more useful things you find on DR1, like news and hotel info, etc.

    Just my 2 pesos.

    Well...

I agree too...I don't think there was a good enough reason to change something that was so unique and flowing with great info to begin with. The original site and concept was great and branching out within as previously stated up above can prove to be beneficial to the operators and owners of this site.

Why list 1,000 items on the menu when the majority of your customers will only come to buy 2-5 items consistently. I along with many others(I THINK) will only come here for DR related stuff and nothing else. I'll continue to go to the other boards where it is all set up already and flowing with useful knowledge(not to say that you won't be able to do the same).

Take a look at www.dominicanchicas.com ... it's real simple and to the point just like this site was, but now there are just too many things on here that arent useful (I THINK) like on the home page after the warning page and just clutter it all up. Who likes clutter?

But who cares what I think. Do what you think is best!

I agree... that`s what I like about this site it`s small and everybody
seems to respect everybody else. there isn`t always somebody
telling you to RTTF or use correct punctuation. That`s what makes this
    site special.

Well first I want to say you are in semi-direct competition with this site as a businessman yourself. You just charge extravagent prices for the information we provide for free, sure you hold their hand but anyone with intelligence could read about it here and then do down by themselves. So I am suspicious of any comments you make about this site.

As for the main page it is empty but we will be putting the valuable information in the Content, FAQ, and Review sections so people don't have to search the forums and find information mixed in with various off-topic remarks that happen all of the time.

I didn't want to bring the site down for a week like other sites have done just to make sure it was "perfect" when it reopened, this is an evolving site and it will grow. This weekend I will be working on the front page content, so it will be far from useless overhead by Monday.

Personally I will follow Jimmy wherever he wants to go but for now we can organize and inform about the Dominican Republic and grow if we want to since we now have the tools to do so.

Whether we expand worldwide or stick with DR will be up to a few of us. For instance, many want to go to Thailand and Colombia. Should we set up a section for that? I know I would trust the opinions of guys I know from here that went there. I am not suggesting that one day you wake up and there are 100 areas here, that won't happen for at least 10 years.

KISS - Keep it Simple Stupid!

This site is great. It's focus is what makes it so valuable. I only get to the DR once a year, but I monitor whats going on all year long and try to post about my experiences when I am there.

I have been to Thailand, Hong Kong, Amsterdam and other locations as well and can find info on those areas on other sites, but none of them are as detailed and comprehensive and yours on the DR.

Keep up the good work, and KISS!

JDR, this site is the best and will always be the best DR monger site in the world... If you want to add a small section on the bottom (which we have now) where we can post our trip reports from different areas of the world we travel to then thats fine... We can post all our experiences (if any) in that small thread... The majority of this board is and should always be about the DR

I agree it's being fine tuned and that's good for me. The dr itself is expanding to other mongers it doesn't take much hell there's a large group of guys at has come into the fold recently(myself included) that adds to the growth of the site with more coming. So I can really appreciate the way things are set up for our community my hearts in the D.R. I'm going to other places to visit but the D.R. is like coming home after going off to war.........(Dealing with the BS of everyday life)

I think this would be good but can we get rid of (combine) several other sections?

I find there are way too many sections.
We don't need a separate section for every single aspect of every location.

If it wasn't for the new posts button, I doubt I would bother reading anything on this board. :P
It's hard to find a particular post unless it comes up again in this search.

Is it possible to have options like search for posts in the past day or 3 or whatever?

It would be nice to be able to read the beginning contents of a post without opening it up.

    I am not complaining.
I appreciate the great work you guys are doing here and I have no intention of asking for a refund.
Actually, I would gladly buy you guys some cervesas and whatnots when I get the chance.

Well what would be combined? If I want to know about restaurants in Sosua I don't want to know about clubs or beaches.

This is possible now, Use the search option.

In the Search for Author box, enter an *
Then in the search previous dropdown box pick one day or whatever.
Make sure in Display Results as: that topics is picked
    Then press search.

Will give you a list of all topics that have been posted to in that time period.

    Thanks Ramesses.

Jimmy, as an example, a section called Chica Action could cover bars, clubs, massage, car wash, freelancers, etc...

Businesses could cover hotels, restaurants, stores, etc...

    Trip Reports.

    Everything else.
More popular posts can be made stickies and certain topics can evolve into their own section.

I think the site is fine the way it is but I can't be bothered to scour the numerous sections.
Sosua alone has 25 sections. :?

Sosua is where 85% of the guys go. I was on WSA and read everything in 10 minutes. UMV, 5 minutes and WSG 3 minutes.

Sure things could get combined but that will take me time to do.

I like the free form of expression, as opposed to putting everything in specific boxes.

When I first registered, it took a while to go through everything. After a while it becomes second nature.

It has little to do with specific organization. It has more to do with experience with the site.

it would be nice if we had a web site link to the hotels, clubs, airlines and any other web site for down there. this way when we say we stayed at Hotel de Aventura or SOSUA PALACE then others would know what and where they are and what they are about ,just my 2 cents.
