There was defnitley an effort made to curb/prevent accidents.
I was surprised at the number of safety people out on the roads.

I drove the Moca road from santiago to cabarete. There were people waving caution flags at many of the curves.

There were aslo people handing out flyers promoting responsible drinking/partying.

It's being reported locally that there were only 24 fatalities this weekend.

Had I been carrying a 9mm I could have easily doubled that count with the number of drunken assholes tigueres that managed to piss me off in Cabarete..lol

Less than the weekend prior apparently when there were 31.

I have heard that in prior years there were more than 50 deaths... I did not drive this weekend, but things did not seem too bad during the day... For all the partying and drinking and the few rules adhered to on the road, the overall death toll doesn't seem to be nearly as high as it could have been.
