05/2011 - Double murder in Sosua last night

Naomi, one of Sosua's most famous trans-sexuals was found murdered in the early hours of today in her bedroom.

A gringo was found dead in the street nearby.

I am told that it is believed that the gringo killed Naomi and was badly wounded in the struggle, left the scene but collapsed and died in the street.

True, but I think that is relatively recent. It's more traditional, and much more usual, meaning is one who places bets (usually on horses or dogs, not cards). But I don't think it is used for professional gamblers. Usually fairly small-time unless you specifically say "big-time punter".

Appropriate really, as we are usually gambling in a small way when we select a whore. 100% value for money is rarely guaranteed.

I agree with all of that. It's a person we probably sat next to or was around drinking a beer and such. I can't tell you how many people asked me if I knew the gringo riding the big motorcycle with the chica on the back and if I knew she was a transvestite. Though its too big of a community to know most people, its small enough where we probably know someone that knew the victim. Also, I for one are hoping that I hear the police found the killer. Finally, this has been a mystery since there are so many rumors.
