I feel weird telling people im going solo on vacation, let alone if they know it is a known mongering destination. Thats all. I feel akward when i say, im going to be gone for a week in the DR. Then they say what for?, or they will ask with who? and i feel a little strange saying myself. O well i probably should just think DGAF (dont give a f***)

My two T-dot friends were the Homey Kev and Whynotme and I do have a Philippino friend named Jose but he lives in LA now!! lol And Luzon Island is not far from Angeles City. Every curious George would get that same version!! And when they wonder too much I tell them "you only live once" and just walk away!

If you are single, then nobody is paying your bills or making your bed. No explanation is necessary, at least specifics. I tell my family who want to know, what country, when I'm leaving, when I'm coming back. No need to say anything more.

If it's co-workers, hey, you just got laid off. They ain't your co-workers anymore. You don't need to come up with some elaborate explanation. If there is a couple of guys you are cool with, then maybe let them know whats up but otherwise, fuck em.

There ya go! I sulked for a while after I left my job. Snapped out of it and headed to the D.R.. The trip wasn't long enough, so I added about two more weeks. Ended up staying a month. Funk over. Wasn't caring about ex coworkers, friends, family, The Hawks (basketball season, lol), chicas back home, nothing. Just remembered to go online and pay bills, and that was it!

im not too upset, to be honest i thought i would have been one of the first casualties but somehow stuck around for a while. i got really good experience and good company on my resume. Plus i got a decent severance with along of my savings i wont be affected for a while. Well depends on how bad i get raped on these airfares to POP lol.

Hey i just got laid off so i decided to use some savings and hit up the DR for a week or so. Since i cant use the im going on business angle, what are other good excuses for traveling solo to DR. Im not a big enough golfer for that work, and the same goes for fishing and i have never scuba dived.

I do like sports gambling and cigars, so maybe ill just say im going for the beach, gambling and cigars? Do you think ill get weird looks or is that a pretty legit excuse?

How big of a reputation for sex does DR have? When i told people i was going to thailand i got a lot of jokes and is always akward to downplay that and keep a front. do you get that from DR? or do people lump it in with the other carribean countries like lets say i picked st. maarten instead i know people would be thinking awesome beach first.

back in the 80's my coworkers always wanted to know where I was going on vacation........

so it didn't take long for me to figure out to tell them nothing........cause loose lips sinks ships..........

though I do have one Buddy that goes to the DR regularly and his line is "the Casinos"

I think the reasoning (not excuse) I gave friends/family/co-workers for going to DR first couple times was that I got a ridiculously good deal and it's cheaper to stay there than it is to stay at any beach destination in the US.

No one ever batted an eye when I said I was going to the DR (except for one of my Dominican friends, but he goes home for reasons other than 'visiting family' anyway. LOL).

I don't think any excuse is necessary to go spend some time decompressing on the beach on a Caribbean island.

You might need to get a little more creative in your reasoning when you're on your third trip later this year, though.

And to top it all off, it's never a good idea to advertise you're going to be away for a certain period of time.

I learned the hard way, and got a ransacked house for my efforts.
