I run a Free Zone business dedicated to what's commonly known as third party logistics, which includes warehousing and transportation.
Our customers are usually free zone companies that demand just in time deliveries of products from off island suppliers.

The Government tells strikers it won’t meet their demands 7/12/11 dominicantoday.com
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Government on Tuesday affirmed it’s impossible to meet the demands of the diverse organizations grouped in the Alternative Social Forum, which convened yesterday’s nationwide walkout of 24 hours.
Economy minister Temístocles Montas, although recognized the groups’ right to protests against the Government’s economic policy, noted that the bad situation isn’t exclusive to Dominican Republic, and in his view needs to be seen in the global context.
"The reading that generated the strike we had, long before the walkout, is that the Government he is aware of the situation the country faces, and which has been generated, not from Government policy, but as a result of an external shock which affects Dominican Republic and everybody,” the official said.
Montas said the increase in food prices is the result of imported raw materials, which spur higher prices in international markets.
He said a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) study found that today’s global food price index is higher than in 2008.
Montas spoke just hours after the protest organizers warned they would stage an assembly on August 14, to decide on the next steps to take, including a new strike.
Damn I go away for a few days and the DR goes all Road Warrior.....
I wouldn't be surprised if there's another strike down the pike very soon.
Almost everyone is convinced that Montas is just spouting rhetoric, and not taking things seriously.
The IMF keeps tell the gov. to reduce it's spending, too many employees, contracts without bidding, etc. etc., and the gov. responds by adding still more "ministers" and employees. Everybody has got to get their $$$...
The next year is going to be really interesting, to say the least.
