    Same here... Many people do like the hills of Sosua, which is beautiful and less expensive but with more danger... I think the danger of living in the hills is not worth the risk.

    There is an international school located between Sosua and Cabarete that the Gringos and more affluent Dominicans like, which is the only way to go, but pricy... Right now there is a lot of new condo construction going on in Cabarete and prices have declined. So, you can get a very good deal on a house or condo in a relatively nice place that has some level of security...

    I guess you guys haven't spent too much time in Cabrera. Lots of expats, low crime, great golf course, low crime.

    Hell, get up into the mountains, and there's lots of small towns that would fit the bill.

    I have heard great things about Cabrera from seasoned ex-pats.
