    Chicas & Superstition

I really had this Haitian girl going last time I was in Sosua. I bought this real funky letter opener which is an Taino Indian head with a black goat's horn protuding from the top and what looks like to be real human teeth that makes up the mouth of the face.

Anyways, I was sitting at the hotel bar and I was talking to her when I decided to go up and get that letter opener to show her.

I told her this is Voodoo....and man, did she ever get a look of fascination & fear in her eyes. I faced the letter opener face to "look" at her and she couldn't take her eyes off of it....even when she was talking to me...it really cracked me up how seriously she took in the "mystique" of that opener......

I am guessing she just put on an act to humor you.

It's not just the chicas who are superstitious. We have more than a few superstitious members in ISOC, including one at a high level.

Believe me, I could tell she wasn't putting on an act ...that's why it was so funny...she really was intrigued/frightened by the letter opener!!!

I have to admit that's why I bought it....it does look like something you COULD use in a voodoo ritual.......

Yep, any Dominican or Haitian will tell you that.

After all these years, I'm still surprised at some of the stuff they come up with, like not opening the reefer when they're on the rag.

    Huh?

Some take that shit more seriously than others and making light of it is very offensive to them like tasteless race or religious remarks.

Although I totally agree with not making fun of it (I had a close friend from Haiti who I worked with in the '80s and he took it VERY seriously and i always remembered what he said.)

Yes it IS a religion to them, just like Christianity may be for some of us.. But I dont get pissed if someone makes fun of the pope , and thats a direct attack. I dont think they would get upset about curious humor either.
IMO its a matter of Context..
If you recall, in the the movie Major League (about cleveland indians) The whole movie pretty much made light of VOO DOO, with an altar, music, and everything.
And I dont recall Dennis Haysbert ever being accused of any "hating", in fact he is doing some very Lucrative ALLSTATE insurance Commercial spots at the moment.
    Its all relative.
Now if you travel to Haiti and start making fun of their religion in their own country, Your ass may not come back alive, and I would NOT blame them one bit.
But I think the people who practive VooDoo are pretty peaceful, Its really NOT a religion of Hate.... and I will stop right there...

It depends, if you don't believe it, then you'll be immune to it. It's all in your mind. The best way is to stay away from that crap!

Yeah... I used to date this Creol Black chick from deeeeeeeep in louisiana I mean she had the damn accent and all.. I was told by several people not to ever eat anything that she cooked with anyyyyyy red sauce... I.E spaghetti. Otherwise you will neverrrrr want to be apart from her and Im sure you could guess why..... So I told her one day that I dont like foods with sauces like that.... I got this strange look from here and she tilted her head back and laughed at me.. but I never ate the red sauce hahaha

The first time I went to Sosua This Hardcore looking haitain chick came up to me and my buddy while chilling in front of el flow in the middle of the day. I seen her before she walked up to us and she pulled somthing out of her pocket and looked at her hand said something walked up to him took his ball cap off and tried to find a place to tie off this little lock of braids onto his hat... I looked at him and shook my head and he snatched his hat back from her and was she everrrrr pissed off.... think I seen some smoke come from her ears lol.

Yea I feel you man. everone is entitled to their own opinion I would never sit and argue with a chica that its not real. I know better. thats like sitting down with a group of people and saying that their god is not real.. its all about their religion and what they beleive... The one haitain chica that I always see when I go her name is Angelina You have probably read about her in my reports as the squirting haitain.. The first night I met her and got her into my hotel I asked her if she is into voodoo and she looks at me and says Siiiii voodoo is beautiful.... I just kissed her on the mouth and said well dont do any on me tonight. Hahahah I think she did because I got her again in febuary lol

I think there was one girl who was trying trying to put a voodoo curse on me, because I woke up in the middle of the night with her fingernails digging into my back and her face staring at me and she was muttering foreign words....

.....or maybe she did that because I was snoring too loud on account of the multiple cuba libres I drank earlier..........
