you only live once, but if you live it right once is enough
Can't say I am surprised by that study.
Why should I limit myself to only one woman when I can have as many women as I want?
George Gershwin
Two foreign words for the creator of that study. "Harm reduction" that's all
you are quoting the Sun, what did you expect?
About Prostitution Research & Education
Mission: Prostitution Research & Education (PRE) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization that conducts research on prostitution, pornography and trafficking, and offers education and consultation to researchers, survivors, the public and policymakers. PREs goal is to abolish the institution of prostitution while at the same time advocating for alternatives to trafficking and prostitution - including emotional and physical healthcare for women in prostitution. The roots of prostitution are in mens assumptions that they are entitled to buy women for sex, and in racism, and womens poverty.
History: PRE was founded in 1995 by Dr. Melissa Farley (view Dr. Farley's CV), a research and clinical psychologist. Since that time, thousands of researchers, legislators, survivors, activists, and advocates in the US and around the world have turned to PRE for carefully researched facts about trafficking and prostitution. PRE has provided research data and consulting to agencies around the world offering services to women escaping prostitution. PRE collaborates with other organizations in our research and educational projects whenever possible.

The reason why I wasn't surprised by the findings, wasn't because of the reputation of the newspaper, or who the researchers were or weren't it had more to do with simple sociology or psychology.
My reasoning being, that since the study was done in Boston, buying sexual favors is against the law, and if you tend to break one law, it isn't so difficult to break another. Also it has to do with the personality types of people who buy sex, they tend to be more risk takers, especially if they are buying it, somewhere where it is illegal. More conservative types would tend not to buy sex, or commit any other type of illegal activity.
Bottom line is, is that we are risk takers and therefore in some people eyes deviants.
And I for one am damn proud of it.
An article also appeared in this week's Newsweek magazine about this "study" - and predictably, the Newsweek article is, like the Toronto Sun article, just as stupidly superficial and biased. Both of these articles about this junk social science report appear to be little more than warmed-over press releases from this "Dr. Farley," the "expert" who has made it her life mission to abolish prostitution and to demonize men.
NEWSWEEK: The Growing Demand For Prostitution: The John Next Door
The John Next Door
The men who buy sex are your neighbors and colleagues. A new study reveals how the burgeoning demand for porn and prostitutes is warping personal relationships and endangering women and girls.

One look at Doc. Farley and the rest of the girls, and it's easy to understand why they do what they do.
Those are some ugly ass women.
If you think it's love try not paying in the morning..
"Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many."
Men who buy sex live longer happier productive lives...where is that study?
Some or many of those that have squeeky clean backgrounds surveyed could have just lied about p4p because they have more to loose than some of those with criminal history.
Many of us that participate in P4P have other vices like drinking or gambling, but those also can be done legally more often than not.
I think these surveys are not alway black in white--most things have a grey area.
