Just a crazy thought for another thread -- I wonder who has had the most problems over the years with thefts, robbery, accidents, violence or whatever. Hmmm

Now back to discounts for ISOC. Tell Felipe at Simply Red Restaurant that you want 5 pesos off the Grande Beers because you are on the internet and he will give it to you
Now some people would get 10 but why be greedy.

My understanding is a couple of Moto conch guys watched him change money and walk back to the tradewinds on the deserted road near the highway and robbed him there in the middle of the day.

he should have changed money and stopped in Rocky's or something for a while, maybe take a Moto back to the apartment. I guess he was felling too safe.

Well I agree with you changing money and walking away into the horizon is not how I would do it either. I have found some hotels will change money for you at the same rate if you are polite to the owner or manager and that is one way to avoid some.

In Sosua I go to Western Union and I drive there so there is a guard by the door where I park with a shotgun so I don't worry. Also at the Big Playero you can always pay with a $100 US and get change so if you are a little short that helps.

There is guy that comes to D'Piero if you call him to change money at almost exactly the same rate and I am sure he would come to any hotel that the management didn't object to.

I was in Sosua and other parts of the DR the first of the month for a week or so and changing money to me wasn't worth the hassle of shopping rates REALLY.

WU was 38.4 and I think the second time 38.8 and I talked to some guys who went to 4 places and did get .2 more one time so since they changed 500 Bucks U.S. they got an extra 100 pesos or one beer for there extra hour of hassle. hmmm

The English speaking contact was the General Manager Wilfried who is was beloved by almost all people but is no longer there. He posted under the name "Plaso" so you may want to PM him and get his thoughts if he is still reading PM's that go to email. I don't know if he has posted in months but if he has I have not seen it. The owner Lorenzo is Italian and doesn't speak English but is a nice guy.

They did raise there rates and even on the old section rooms with the ISOC discount it is now $55 per night and extra for airport transportation. New Section rooms I think are $62 per night. Great roudy party atmosphere though in a Urban kind of way if you are looking for that.

Terra Linda is 3 doors down and another option for $62-$69 depending who you talk to and contact guy is Willie Padilla Manager. Tell him you want isock rate and it should only be that price for a brand new place built 2 years ago.

MANY THREADS on Wilfried, NG and Wilfried and Terra Linda Hotel. Search and read that way and it may help you decide.

I stayed at The Palms a few weeks after that happened. I walked the same route, and I was mean mugging every moto driver who was probably just trying to give me a ride.

Check out the newer Sosua Suites (found through Rocky's page). It's also close to the action. You should stay close to PC on your first trip back.

You could stay at Sosua Bay Resort with its own beach and pool. It is right by to After One and the casino (2 good late night options for putas) and a block from the center of town about the same distance as New Garden. They have All Inclusive with garden view for $75 or Ocean View for $85 tax included or they also have a section in what many call the Mongers section with a seperate entrance and these only come with breakfast and the price varies depending who books it but many pay about $55-$65 a night.

And here is another site they are on.

Looks like I just got a response from new garden... Should I stay on the old side or the new wing? Is it worth the extra money? Thanks for your help!

There are lots of pictures of the rooms and the differences already posted you can look at and the price difference has been covered many times. Read some of Jimbos stuff he has tons of it on that.

Personally it is not a place I would stay but many like it. I just couldn't handle some whore knocking on my door at 3am after someone tossed her out and waking me up or all the pushing putas bugging people by the pool begging for drinks. Some guys like that and I think that is great.

Sosua Bay Resort would be where I would stay if I stayed downtown.

    Have a great trip

im not worried about a loud chica... Im sure most of my sleeping will be during the day time on the beach or after beach day before going to the clubs... Sleep is the cousin of death... The last few times I was there I stayed at Villas but also rented a car and had a couple guys going with me... This is an all me trip and of course whoever I wind up hanging with... I just wanted to be closer to the action on my first trip back... if I could stay at the Palace in my past, there should be no problems at NG

I get a migraine whenever i read shit like this. Good thing i got my Ibuprofen right here next to me.

Let me go back to reading my book on String Theory ... much easier to understand and comprehend than spending an hour walking around in 90 degree weather to save two dollars.
Bitch you wasn't with me shootin' in the gym ...

Some people like to count their beans. Aint no crime to save money.
And just Like saving $.10 a gallon on Gasoline here ,, u FILL UP when its convenient, you dont go LOOKING for it by driving around 10 miles, when you on Empty... Thats just common sense, no ?
Them dudes who exchange $500 at the airport at 32:1,, make my skin Crawl. It is exactly the same as taking a Match, and burning 3000 Pesos ( or about $80 ) , its the exact same thing.

I just use my paypal card and pull money out. I have no idea where the rates are better or worse.

I would be more focused on if you want to be on the upper floors or the ground floor.
The ground floor is very convenient, to walk right out to the pool, bar and breakfast. You dont have to bring all your crap, & you forget something like a bottle of water or your phone, laptop, or pesos or whatever, you walk 25 feet to get it, and its COOLER on the ground floor. Upper floors you have a balcony you can bang chicas on if you want, so thats nice, but its hotter up there. Its all on what your preference is.
Someone mentioned Sosua Bay before ? IMO, that AI wrist band makes you a target for pickpockets & hardcore putas etc on the strip. It just screams Newbi, even though you are NOT one and the Chica policy is inconsistent there & u can only bring ONE + you will get "looks" from the gringa wives which aint worth it. . bunch of threads on this already. Definitely go NG, or Terra Linda, imo.
