This year's first group of Dominican ex-convicts arrived at Las Americas airport from the USA on Tuesday. They were met by officials from the National Police (PN) and Immigration together with officers from the National Drug Control Department (DNCD), the Department for National Intelligence (DNI) and Airport Security Corps (CESA).

They had been convicted of a variety of offences including drug trafficking, murder, robbery, forgery, rape, and arson and had all completed sentences of four to ten years in prisons throughout the country.

In the whole of last year, 3,878 Dominican ex convicts were repatriated to their home country by the USA, on between two and four flights a month.
