Yesterday, the police chief, Major General Jose A Polanco Gomez, instructed the Director of Internal Affairs, Brigade General Franklin B Vitini Duran to carry out a thorough investigation into the alleged mistreatment received by a cameraman from Channel 29 in Santiago at the hands of a police patrol there.

General Vitini Duran has been given the job of investigating a complaint made by Anthony Cordero, a reporter from Channel 29, who alleges he was hit by members of an anti-drug police squad who were stopping people in Ensanche Bermudez in Santiago. The order is contained in a memorandum issued by Major General Polanco Gomez, with the objective of establishing the circumstances leading to the mistreatment of the cameraman, which were allegedly recorded on a smartphone device. Major General Polanco Gomez instructed the officer to carry out the investigation and submit his report with recommendations in the shortest time possible.

This police chief has stated before that he will not tolerate violations of citizens' human rights.
