Atlanta Hawks says that their All Star center, Puerto Plata-born Al Horford will have surgery on the torn pectoral he suffered in a loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. He is expected to miss three months, but there is hope the surgery will help him make it back in play before the end of the regular season. On Wednesday, Horford fell to the ground when going for a rebound and having his shot blocked by Indiana's Roy Hibbert. Horford had been averaging 13.1 points and 7.5 rebounds through the first 10 games this season. In this fifth year in the NBA, Horford had hardly been out for injuries, and has played in at least 77 games in three of his first four years in the NBA. He was recently in the news after a surprise wedding to the Dominican Republic's only Miss Universe (2003), 6-foot tall Amelia Vega.

The good news was that in a first game playing without Horford, the Atlanta Hawks won 111-81 against the Charlotte Bobcats last night. Josh Smith scored 30 points and Joe Johnson added 23 to help the Atlanta Hawks win their first game without their All-Star center.
