Good report Leosian it brought back memories of one of my first trips to TRV around the same time. I got sick as a dog too but it only lasted a day until it went out the other way. I am sure it was the contaminated ice in the drinks. Other than being sick I enjoyed my 3 days there, however at approximately $500.00 per day we can do much better on our own.

Lodging $50.00 a day
Meals & drinks $50.00 a day
Chicas 3 a day $150.00 a day

Of course you can adjust your numbers up or down but you can still do a DR trip for half or less on your own.

I can pretty much guarantee that's it's not the ice. If you ever saw an ice plant here, you'd understand.

... I dont know what made me sick but I suspect it was the ice from the drinks because many Dominican establishments are notorious for using contaminated water to make ice...

Nobody makes their own ice. The power grid doesn't allow it. EVERYBODY uses bagged ice. All bagged ice production is STRICTLY controlled.

Some eateries have been known to use tap water to clean vegetables and fruits.

Ice doesn't worry me. Most bars dont seem to have a lot of glasses and the way they wash the glasses by rinsingbin tap water and not drying is what I have issues from a former bartenders pov.
