True, but that was during the transition. Once the sale was completed I, too, noticed a bump in prices. Continental's prices used to be fairly competitive and I flew solely with them (unless I couldn't get a seat, and then I'd rely on Jet Blue), but now United no longer flies direct (which you've noted) and the fares are double and 40+ hours longer than what they were before Continental sold out.

My annual September trip usually is right after the flights go down to below $400 or not much higher. I'm looking at $471-$500 plus now. We may be going in August this year knowing that the flights are even higher. I just saw $701, but saw $820 awhile back for the August dates. I'm just going to enjoy this next trip and hope for the best. The bright side is the flight for June is surprisingly low or what I usually pay for March or September.

Try getting a JetBlue flight into POP for under $450, apart from an occasional special/discount fare - they ain't out there.

You sure are right about that, but been a big increase since last year.

yep I have noticed that also, I used to get out of my house at 6 am and by 1:30 pm I was in the DR, now I have a big layover of more than 17 hours "last time I checked" for that much of a layover I will fucking drive 6 hours and get my plane out of EWR and save me the aggravation of waiting almost a full day to be able to fly, I mean PVD to EWR its only a fucking hour by plane why do that now, they should have kept same of the flights.

But I guess joint ventures new changes for the worse, atleast for some of us, well that means I have to start flying out of Boston.

They fly direct to SDQ & POP, just not STI and I'm not sure they ever did. Actually, apart from Aruba, United never really had any Caribbean routes at all until the merger and I don't think CO ever flew direct to STI (and if they did then they haven't for a few years). So... Not really sure what you mean.

I think he is checking for dates that are to close and flights are already sold out and they are routing him all over.

When Jetblue ran there spring12 promo a few weeks back ,, I got a one way ticket From Boston to Santo Domingo on June 8th For $128 Direct Flight.

I could not book a round trip flight because the promos dates for flying were good for my departure(8th), but short of my return date(19th).

Since that time I have been searching for return flights, and watching them go up and up. So just as i was about to spend $355 on Jetblue for my return flight, i took a quick look at the other airlines.
    American($450),,,,continental (ridiculous ).
So then unconsiously ( not even knowing that they flew Sdq to boston,) i tried Delta,,,,,, And I got lucky,,,,,,,,They had a one way ticket leaving SDQ to Boston at 1:45 For $ 204 ,,,,,so i grabbed it.

So Round trip for $ 332,,,,not bad.

The only tough part is going to be the 2 hour ride I have after i land At SDQ to Las Terrenas at 2 :15 AM.

I see you're from Boston. I, too, used to do the PVD-EWR-POP route back in my earlier days, until CO changed the itinerary and you'd have to fly from PVD to EWR about 6AM, stay in Newark overnight and fly on to POP the NEXT day. Made no damned sense. I started just driving down to EWR and flying direct to POP from there.

My apologies, I misspoke. What I meant was that I assumed that when United took over CO they would take over their routes and would fly to STI. However, now that you've raised the issue, I'm not quite sure that CO flew directly to STI as, at that time, I always flew to POP.

Actually, no, there are flights available on JB and Delta. I was looking for flights to STI on Jet Blue and Delta and, just out of curiosity, decided to check United to see how their fare to STI compared to the others. I was shocked to see that they were double the cost and 40+ hours of travel time. But, deezl has explained the reasoning behind that.

That's the problem I have. There are some pretty decent prices in the $300+ range, IF I was willing to fly into and out of STI in the middle of the night.

Yeah,, I had to grab this flight ,,,,especially because It was the ONLY direct flight that Jetblue offered. And I just love the idea of the direct flight. (Less chance of losing my luggage).
I should probably get to Las Terrenas at about 5:00 AM.

Hopefully I will be able to sleep on the plane. ( Maybe Trey can give me some advice on this )

Cool Re: United fares to the DR

My STI experience anoche and today=not pleasant! A few weeks ago, i used 17,500 AA miles for a
STI/MSP flight at 8am. Several men reco'd hotels and cabanas for anoche. Although I had it in writing, 6 could not grasp the concept of all night! Quotes were $50-$90! Finally, I found one named ETHICS, that gave me a room for $32. Next problem = no place to eat. Next, drove on the darkened, hazardous Ruta towards Santiago. Alas nothing. Finally made a shit choice, KFC ! Anyway, I felt lost on finding any night spots. So i returned to the room and watched 2 NBA games and some decent porn. Left at 6am for STI. Most traffic idiots were driving with high beams! The airport was a breeze. Gate clerk passed me through with a 62 lb. bag and no charge! They even forgot to charge me tax for an 8 month stay in DR! Fairly lax security. Tiny coffee was 110 pesos! Free airport Wi-Fi. Great flight. Miami Customs is a lengthy nightmare. MIA food is awful and expensive. Now, I'm on an 10 hour layover because AA refuses to send me sooner! They prefer fuking over a frequent flyer. No wonder they are bankrupt! Would I do STI again?????????

And this is the cheapest fare for an economy flight.

Who the hell in their right mind is going to pay double for a fare, and take a 45 hour one way flight for what is, normally, a 3 1/2 hour flight?
You don't say where you're flying from, so it's hard to know whether or not that's a good price.
