After a lot of thought I decided I'd rather eat the high fare now so I can know that I only HAVE to pay for my room and pussy upon arrival instead of saving on the fare and have to be nickeled and dimed on taxis, buses, and trains the arrival and departure day of my trip.

Aint no shame in that plan... You weighed your OPTIONS and picked the best one for you... Nothing wrong with that... The point of posting lower fares is just to make dudes aware of the PRICE differences out there.. and the differences can be HUGE...
I just watched most flights for the rest of August jump to like the $600- $700 Range, and thats STI from JFK which is usually the cheapest as you know . The prices WERE in the $350 range just days ago... one way down is STILL $164 - $195, but the return Leg is fucked, unless you got balls and buy the down leg and wait for a chance..
....They play their games, we play ours..

one thing to consider is the tax to the DR is 100 bucks this is like double the cost of taxes to italy or amsterdam the airports must be fandamtastic to rate that high a tax

it's $110 when you factor in the bullshit 'tourist card' fee. the taxes are basically 2-3 times as much as anywhere else in the caribbean.

Yeah its about 135 I believe, taxes to dr. But its all included in the price now since the law passing earlier this year.

What's real interesting and shows how high the tax is is that a trip to the philippines (a 800 to 1000 price range flight) is less taxes than dr. I believe the tax is about 100 dollars everytime I've gone to the philippines.

Yeah you have to put everything into consideration.

I paid 610 out of hartford for end of august into pop...

but hartford saves me $100 bucks in parking iversus JFK....so I am down to 510 for the cost.

then i figure STI is another $100 bucks....so I am down to 410.

plus a free ride from pop.

I am looking for an arubua ticket for october and they were 500 rangle 12 weeks out. now its all 700 range. its frustrating having to wait them out. do you wait them out all the way to 4 weeks out to see if they go down. its nice to know you have a ticket. i think thats worth money to...el toro has his

That's because they still count the 'fuel surcharge' as 'taxes' in Canada whereas in most places the fuel surcharge is factored into the base fare.

You sound like my 1st Ex Wife. After going nuts at the mall she'd say: "But look at how much I saved over retail" like that makes it okay.

At some point I'm going to resort to a Windjammer cruise there. These prices suck ass.

They're all on Saturday. In past years it seemed in September they flew on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but now it's just Saturday. If you're doing the open calendar check the 7 day length of trip option.

Thats the same shit that Delta did, before they dropped the flight from Atlanta to POP all together.

Yeah, but there aren't a million Dominicans in Atlanta like there are in the NYC area. United isn't gonna drop the EWR-POP route, they always scale back flights (at least, they did when it was Continental) going into the Fall.

It's just one flight a week through September-October, then up to 3 per week in November and it'll be back up to daily by the time high season kicks in.

    Prices still suck, though.

deezl. I was looking on AA last night at ticket prices. For the first time, I noticed "Instant Upgrade". What the hell is that?

it's an offer for you to pay more money and get upgraded to business or first class for less than the cost of a business or first class ticket.

Does that mean that if they sell out of buisness or first class, I'm out my money?

yes, you'd be out your money - but you'd have a seat in first or business class.

it's not like you pay for it and then your name goes into a hat, it's a guaranteed upgrade.

I opted for the instant upgrade on my flight to POP in July; the first segment of my flight was a commuter jet to MIA and it was standard seating as there is was no first class and the MIA to POP segment I was in first class. It was a nice change of pace for me when vacationing as I normally just fly business class only when travelling for business and coach when vacationing on my dime.

I actually wished I had done so for the return portion of my trip.

Checking flights for early 2013 (Jan-March) and it looks like United will be offering daily flights from EWR to POP. Fares are anywhere from $552 to over $700 currently.
