I went to the global entry machines last night and went right through quick. That really doesn't save you time.....Where it really saved me time was there is global entry passage for the baggage check line once you get your bag. There was huge line there last night and I snaked right in and off to passenger pickup.

TSA pre and the baggage check line are worth it.

thats called US CUSTOMS, or now just Customs
... has nothing to do with TSA who do security checks for getting ON the plane..

On domestic you deal with TSA only, on international, you got immigration First, and the last guy you see before you exit the building is the US CUSTOMS person..they are the dudes who can search your luggage etc.

im only putting my .02 in cuz i have a cousin who worked in US CUSTOMS for many years..now retired.

He also worked the PORTS like in Newark.. checking Containers, same Agency...

My GE was golden last night. I breezed through Customs, etc in just a few minutes at JFK..no long lines..no 10 questions asked 100 times. ..SWEEEET!

    Re: 06/2012 - Global entry

Just got home...and used my GE in HNL and glad I had it..no less than 5 international flights at same time in Morning ...2 Sydney,Narita,Osaka, and a few others...made a beeline to immigration and Jam-packed...line snaking ,but I spotted the golden ticket , the GE kiosks with no one using them.

being the friendly guy I am I used her and waved at the hundreds of people in line and said adios...waited a few minutes for my luggage and came off with only about 3 other people from my flight waiting...

Dedicated GE customs line with no one in it and out the door.

fllight landed 9:53 am,,out of terminal by 10:20am....

FYI - I got my new passport this month. You need to go into your global entry account on the web and update your record with the new passport number. Because they give you a new number with a new passport. Damn I had the old one memorized

Four years ago I got mine back. That wasn't that long ago, or was it.

I like having it for the memories. Hell, I'm not sure what I did yesterday.

    I renewed mine this year.

They sent my old one back to me in a separate mailing.
They also punch holes in the old one.

    Re: 06/2012 - Global entry

Tonight is one of those nights that I wished that I'd gotten global entry. It took just shy of two hours from the time I deplaned until the time I cleared customs here in MIA. It was almost 90 minutes to clear immigration. The lines were incredible.

I'm never flying on Sat thanksgiving weekend again. Fortunately I made my connection though.

I'm guessing that took longer than the actual flight.

I had a similar situation earlier this month flying MDE to PTY, flight was a little over an hour, line at immigration was about the same (of course, it was Panama City, so Global Entry wouldn't have helped anyway).

The line was a people watchers dream. People are funny in these situations. I couldn't help but laugh at several of them. Apparently they were more important than the other several thousand of us in line.

If you applied you would have to go to Atlanta for the interview. Worth it because you get precheck and it lasts for 5 years...
